Augusto Group took out the 2019 Supreme Business Excellence Award for the Central region.

“Exceptionally strong,” entries in the 2019 Westpac Auckland Business Awards meant that the judges had a very tough task selecting the winners, says Michael Barnett, CEO of the Auckland Business Chamber.
“These awards bring together businesses to showcase their talent, their strategic thinking, marketing and customer services and much more. Our winners and finalists are today’s employers and tomorrow’s wealth providers. They deserve to be recognised and celebrated,” he says.
The 2019 Supreme Business Excellence Award Winners were: Unleashed Software (North & West regions), GMP Pharmaceuticals (South & East regions) and Augusto Group (Central region).
Creative and production agency Augusto Group describes itself as a ‘team of thinkers and makers at the intersection of advertising, entertainment and technology’. Company boss Aimee McCammon says, Kiwi thinking and innovation is highly valued and advises: “Don’t hold back from getting on the world stage.”
Head of marketing and sales (NZ) for dietary supplements manufacturer GMP Pharmaceuticals, Evan Rees, thinks the accolade will enhance the company’s reputation with its trading partners around the world.Global Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company headquartered in Takapuna, Auckland, Unleashed Software, also won the Excellence in Marketing and Employer of the Year categories.
CEO Gareth Berry says the awards reflect a true team: “We wouldn’t be able to do the great work we do without having great customers, partners and a dedicated team all executing brilliantly on a global scale. “This award is really about recognising all of their hard work and thanking our customers who have supported us along the way.”
Auckland Council’s economic growth agency Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) chief executive, Nick Hill, describes small and medium sized businesses as essential in helping to create quality jobs for all Aucklanders.
“In central Auckland there are nearly 65,000 businesses, of which nearly 99 per cent are SME. As Auckland prepares for the future, it’s an exciting time for the region. Professional, scientific and technical services businesses continue to thrive as the region’s largest employer, and construction is booming in central Auckland, up 52 per cent over the last 10 years,” he says.

Jeff Driscoll, Westpac Regional Commercial Manager, Auckland, says that as Auckland is the biggest cog in New Zealand’s economy great businesses, such as the award winners are fundamentally important to New Zealand’s global success.
Michael Barnett says that a record number of entries were received for the awards this year with more than 500 entries – over double the number of businesses that entered in 2018.
“Businesses are realising the benefits they gain from entering these awards. It makes them stop and analyse what they are doing which is a valuable practice. By showing the courage to be judged they also get to compare and benchmark them-selves against the best,” he says.
The awards are delivered by Auckland Business Chamber in partnership with Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and cover three Auckland regions of North & West, Central and South & East.
The high profile awards not only celebrate innovation and creativity in the business sector but also represent opportunities for networking, information sharing, media coverage and a platform to showcase businesses to potential investors, says Michael.
Entries open from early April each year. Categories include Excellence in Innovation, Excellence in International Trade, Excellence in Customer Service Delivery, Best Emerging Business, Excellence in Marketing, Employer of the Year, Excellence in Strategy & Planning, Excellence in Community Contribution and People’s Choice.
