People, craftsmanship key to success
The single-story townhouses in the Duncan Close development range from two-bedroom units with study to a three-bedroom with two bathrooms.

What’s in a name? Wanganui company Wat’s On Building Ltd believe it is all about the people, quality craftsmanship and taking pride in every job.
After 17 years working as a qualified tradesman operating in and around the Wanganui area Mike Watson established Wat’s On Building Ltd in 2005, steadily growing his team to currently twelve carpenters and three experienced Project Managers.
Office manager Andree Watson says a collaborative approach and working in with people has been key to the company’s success over the years.
“Our approach has always been that it’s about the people. Wat’s On Building is very much a team with everyone contributing to the business’ success. Each staff member brings their own flavour to the business in how they work with people—they’re very diverse—real people.”
“Mike gets to know people and he teaches his team—while still giving them the space and opportunity to find solutions”
Mike’s passion for building is shown in his attention to detail and making things that last—especially those projects where he can reflect and see the difference he and his team have made throughout the Wanganui, Rangitikei and Ohakune area’s.
“We love the climate and the sporting opportunities in Wanganui – Mike has lived here all his life and heavily involved in sport, including coaching,” says Andree.
“We’ve built up many business and personal relationships over the years—it’s home.”
With the twin focus on residential and light commercial construction, Wat’s On Building has been engaged in large-scale multi-office fit-outs, multiple projects for the Ministry of Education and under-taken hospital maintenance work.
Award winning Registered Master Builders and Licensed Building Practitioners, the company thrives on a wide range of residential work including new builds, additions and renovations along with maintenance work.

Duncan Close is conveniently located close to the vibrant East Wanganui Shopping Centre, services and amenities.

“We’re one of IAG’ Insurance’s preferred builders repairing anything from fences and roofs right through to total house replacement.”
Andree says that available land for construction in Wanganui is in short supply but a few years ago Wat’s On Building was fortunate enough to secure land in a prime location in Wanganui East that had been the site of the old Wanganui Furnishing Building, along with an adjoining section.
The land was sufficient to site five contemporary town houses in a mini subdivision.
Located in Duncan Street in close proximity to the vibrant East Wanganui Shopping Centre, services and amenities, Mike and Andree appropriately named the subdivision ‘Duncan Close’.
Designed by Wanganui architectural practice, Sharp Architectural Services Ltd, the single story townhouses range from two-bedroom units with study to a three-bedroom with two bathrooms.
Three of the townhouses are stand-alone, while two are of duplex design but all have their own separate Title.
All the townhouses are mono pitch with internal single garaging and workshop, plus additional off road parking.
The external cladding is brick and linear board, with the homeowners able to select the colour of linear board, roofing and interior schemes.
Andree says the last of the town houses was finished late 2018, and compliments the sub contractors for the high level of finish on all the buildings.
“All the townhouses were sold prior to completion and we were so fortunate that such a lovely group of people bought the homes.” It’s always about the people.
