Leading the way in steel construction
Waikato Construction Management is focused on commercial, industrial and residential construction.

Named Franchisee of the Year two years running in 2018, Coresteel Waikato hopes to make it three in a row at Coresteel Building’s annual conference later this year.
Operating under the name of Waikato Construction Management Ltd, 2018 also signified key milestones for the business -10 years in business and 10 years as the first franchise holder for Coresteel Buildings.
Coresteel Buildings is a steel structural componentry design system manufactured in New Zealand using New Zealand steel and holds 19 franchises throughout New Zealand.
Established in 2008 by Gary and Trina White and joined by fellow director John Morrow in 2012, Waikato Construction Management has grown from a husband and wife team to a bustling operation focused on commercial, industrial and residential construction.
Prior to forming the business Gary gained extensive management and construction experience in site excavation and preparation, complementing Trina’s background in accountancy.
Employing a team of more than 40 staff including designers, sales staff, fully qualified quantity surveyors, project managers, qualified foremen and carpenters, steel workers, roofers and apprentices, the business is kept busy with multiple high profile design and build industrial projects underway.
“We are very much a team and together we make the business work very well,” says Trina. Based in Te Awamutu, the Waikato Coresteel Building franchise covers Coromandel, Waikato district, Hamilton City, Waipa, Otorohanga, King Country, Matamata and Piako, while Waikato Construction Management operates the depth and breadth of New Zealand.
With the vast majority of builds utilising the Coresteel ‘design and build’ system, Trina says winning the Franchisee of the Year awards for the last two years was recognition of the businesses continued growth primarily achieved through repeat business and the best advertising of all—word of mouth.
“We’re pretty proud of the reputation we hold in the market place. We do project delivery very well.
“From start to finish we have a clear and transparent communication process and we keep the customer fully informed throughout the project lifecycle.”
Supporting that reputation, repeat customer and high profile business KGL Properties engaged Waikato Construction Management to construct three purpose built storage facilities leased to Storage King at the Hamilton Airport precinct.
One of several projects that Waikato Construction has under way in the area, the three buildings house 115 individual storage units ranging from 1.5m x 3m right through to 10m x 3.6m and appealing to private and commercial customers.
Passionate about creating bespoke ‘design and build’ solutions for their clients, Trina says the BOnus is getting to make their client’s dream a reality.
“We really have specialised in ‘design and build’ commercial, industrial and residential buildings and pride ourselves in that market place,” says Trina.
“We listen to what the client wants and specialise in identifying a clients specific building requirements.”
Trina explains that concept plans developed by in-house architectural designers based on the client’s needs and requirements are presented to the client and if approved the build is priced before proceeding through to the working drawings.
If the project is a Coresteel build, structural engineers employed by Coresteel review the design.
From concept design, council sign-off through to construction and landscaping, Waikato Construction Management offers its clients a full turnkey solution “We’ve had clients come to us frustrated after going down a path that has not been successful for them.
“They come to us and we make it happen using the Coresteel system very cost effectively, and quickly. It’s very flexible in design, which means we can drive through projects quite effectively. It really is a great system to be part of.”
