When a boutique accommodation provider wins a prestigious international award acknowledging industry leaders going the extra mile for their guests, then the positive flow-on effects are likely to be felt region-wide.That’s according to Shane Mitchell-Bathgate, who manages Marlborough’s Vinters Retreat.
This exceptional vineyard accommodation was recently named as New Zealand’s Best Group & Family Villa Retreat in LUXLife magazine’s 2019 Global Hospitality Awards. This latest success follows a Luxury Travel Guide Asia and Australasia award going to Vintners Retreat in 2017.“It’s exciting for us and for Marlborough,” says Shane.
“To be recognised like this for service and quality of service is a key component towards putting this region well and truly on everyone’s radar. Success breeds success, so it’s a real positive.”Winning the 2019 Global Hospitality Award shows that Vintners Retreat is up with the very best in the world.“We’re proud to be acknowledged in this way.
Often the work we do behind the scenes goes unnoticed so it’s really nice to get this recognition from industry peers. “Hospitality is what we’re all about: our goal is to delight our customers. Exceptional customer service is what sets you apart in today’s very competitive environment.”
Vintners Retreat, located in Renwick, offers 14 beautifully appointed two- and three-bedroom villas, set amongst vines on a four acre property. The villas have private patios, are full equipped to a high standard and serviced daily.
Each one has a barbecue on the patio and a spa in the bathroom.“We’re not some kind of formulaic hotel. All our villas are very individual in style and they’re right in amongst the vines; they’re as close to wine as it gets before it goes in the bottle! “For a lot of people, that’s just what they’re looking for.
They want to experience Marlborough as a premier New Zealand wine region.“We’re a family run business, so when people arrive we like to make them feel at home. “We ask how their day is going and what they have planned.
“We can help them find places they want to visit and always go the extra mile to ensure they have a wonderful experience here. It’s great if people can stay longer because, as well as world class wineries the region has so much to offer.”
There are three fabulous wineries only five minutes’ walk away from Vintners Retreat, with more only 12-15 minutes away. Recreational amenities on the property itself include a 12 metre solar heated swimming pool, onsite bike hire, (for riding through the vineyards or cycling on the banks of the Wairau River) tennis, garden croquet and boules.
Friends, family groups and people of all ages are well catered for.Over summer, a lot of visitors from North America, the UK and Europe are booked to stay at Vintners Retreat. “A large proportion of our guests are couples whose kids have grown up and moved on.
“They’re looking for something different and want to sample some of the best wine New Zealand has to offer.”In 2020, the award winning retreat plans to lift its social media and website presence and further build its market profile.
