Top service key in competitive market
Value Building Supplies credits its success to being locally owned and offering a reliable and friendly service.

Stuart Waite, managing director of Value Building Supplies in New Plymouth just needs to look at the team who work with him to know he is running a successful company.
With more than 50 staff involved in the business, spanning a myriad of trade-related products and services, Stuart is proud of the company’s employment history.
“Our longest serving employee has been with us for 45 years along with two others having clocked up four decades and four more approaching that milestone. That says something about the company’s culture,” says Stuart.
Tracking back through the businesses long history it began in Inglewood where, to this day, the company’s sawmill and frame and truss assembly site is located.
A giant leap in business occurred when, in 2005, Stuart made the decision to widen the scope of the operation to offer the full range of building supplies not just timber. This is when Value Building Supplies at 1 Katere Road New Plymouth took off and since then the value of turnover has increased year on year.
“It’s a very competitive environment servicing the building and trades-related sector but I put our ongoing success down to a simple philosophy – being locally owned and supplying top-service to our customers.”
Today, Value Building Supplies offers a comprehensive array of building products, servicing rural needs, along with building contractors and DIY projects.
Farmers, and those living on life-style blocks, can access bobby calf pens, farm gates, fencing posts, and sleep outs. Value Building Supplies also offers those in rural situations a farm shed construction service.
The company manufactures bird aviaries and chicken coops, fencing panels and garden sheds, planter boxes, BBQ tables, trellising and gazebos to name a few.
“Adding to our building and plastering supplies’ divisions we have just opened up an in-house paint supplying service. It just made sense to add this to what we already offer customers.”
Value Building Supplies is a member of the Frames and Truss Manufacturers Association, an organisation dedicated to promoting timber and raising the standards of the frame and truss industry since it formed in 1998.
Stuart is also proud of being a founder of BuildLink, a network of independent stores throughout New Zealand. The group pull their collective buying power together to offer customers special deals on a wide number of building related products.
“It works very well in that we can negotiate great prices with our suppliers. Coupled with a network of locally owned businesses we think it gives our customers the best value and service possible.”
When asked about connections to the community Stuart says supporting local initiatives is something Value Building Supplies has long held as an important way to contribute and give back.
Case in point: Value Building Supplies has been part of a huge project to extend the Marinoto Rest Home in Inglewood. This ambitious project will not only increase capacity but will add a brand new hospital facility on site.
“The hospital wing is just about to be opened and residents about to be moved in. We’ve been proud to be able to be a core sponsor for this really worthwhile project.”
Never one to rest on his laurels though, Stuart says he’s looking forward to continuing to evolve and improve the business so that his customers get the very best value for money and service possible.
