Tunnicliffe Builders is a family company and it is this fact that sets it apart, says owner Greg Tunnicliffe. “Both my son Blair and I are on the tools. My wife Sophia is the company’s able administrator doing the work behind the scenes.
This means we can offer our clients a very personal building experience,” he says. Tunnicliffe Builders was started in 2008 and brings a great deal of experience to each project the company undertakes.
The Tunnicliffe family has a rich history in building and Blair is the third generation of builders.
Greg trained on the job with his own father and has been on tools and involved in the building trade for around four decades clocking up a wide range of experience including new home builds, residential and commercial glazing and joinery.
Greg used his decades of experience to teach Blair. Both are fully qualified and Licensed Building Practitioners. Blair is also qualified as a site supervisor.
Based in Masterton, Tunnicliffe Builders completes new homes, renovations and smaller projects such as fences, decks, gazebos and sheds to name but a few throughout the Wairarapa.
The company also completes maintenance and repair projects. As members of Hazardco and Registered Master Builders the company can offer the Master Build 10 Year Guarantee on new homes and renovations.
The Master Build 10-Year Guarantee has protected more than 140,000 homes over the past 25 years and no matter whether the new build or renovation is big or small, the guarantee can be tailored to suit individual needs, says Greg.
Greg says maintaining close contact with clients throughout the project is part of the personal building experience that Tunnicliffe Builders offers.
As most work is undertaken in-house this assists with control over quality and timing of projects. Building in the region is busy and Tunnicliffe Builders is in demand with work booked up until mid next year.
At present it is working on the renovation of an 1880’s home, a number of new builds including three for Jennian Homes, to which the company regularly subcontracts, and several smaller projects such as re roofs, a new deck and a chimney removal.
One new build has helped the client tap into their Kiwisaver as well as the Government’s KiwiSaver HomeStart grant.
Tunnicliffe Builders is also busy building a spec home, which is covered by a Master Build Guarantee, which will be available for a purchaser to move into later this year. The 220sqm home in Mervyn Brown Place in Solway, has a monopitch roof and is clad in Rockcote and Abodo.
The home will offer three bedrooms, a study, two living areas, bathroom, separate toilet and ensuite and double garage.
Top quality is the aim and Tunnicliffe Builders plans to enter the home in the Master Builder House of the Year competition. Interested purchasers are welcome to contact Tunnicliffe Builders .
Considering the longevity of the family in the building industry it’s no surprise that Tunnicliffe Builders is a keen supporter of apprentices and has trained many since the company started.
The company currently has two apprentices in the team, which includes three licensed builders and two labourers.
“I think it’s really important to hand on what we’ve learned to the next generation coming through to future proof the building industry in New Zealand,” says Greg.
“Our aim is to continue to build our reputation in the residential market for excellence as well as offering a few spec houses to the market to help with the shortage of new homes in the region.”
