Idyllic country living in Mid Canterbury

Combining easy access to Lake Hood with a considered layout maximised for its tranquil rural location and spectacular lake to mountain views, The Village Green in Mid Canterbury has all the right ingredients for idyllic country living.
For those who don’t want the work of a lifestyle block but are looking for a spacious home in the country, then this development would be ideal.
Adding to the appeal is that The Village Green is just eight minutes away from Ashburton’s town centre, with Christchurch International Airport and skiing at Mt Hutt all within an hour’s drive.
At the head of the Ashburton Aquatic Park off Huntingdon Avenue, The Village Green also offers the convenience of town sewer and water connection.
Infrastructure work is well underway, as the development takes shape.
Sections are generously sized with only 35 planned for the entire development, which will be situated within 50 acres of a fully operational lamb fattening farm owned by the developers who will continue to farm it.
Nine elevated sections are currently for sale in the first two stages, overlooking Lake Hood and with coffee just a short stroll away at the Lakehouse restaurant and bar.
Having themselves lived by Lake Hood for a decade, developers John Skevington and Jo Ruane are no strangers to the pleasures of waterside living and say this incredible location is worth sharing.
“It’s a great community here and we find there’s always something to see or do,” says John, who grew up on, and farmed, the nearby family farm until moving to Lake Hood. The Village Green is sited on land originally farmed by his grandmother’s family.
“The Ashburton Aquatic Park is used for water skiing and rowing and families love the lakeside walking and cycling tracks. This is a very special part of the world.”
Much care has been taken to prepare The Village Green as a dream lifestyle choice.

The layout plan is impressive, with a feature river stone entry, well-formed pathways and roads, landscaped reserve areas, thoughtful planting and placement of roadside trees and generous separation between the different planned stages.
“We wanted to create something unique that would make the best use of this land,” Jo says.
“We did a lot of research on how to achieve that through maximising views of the Southern Alps and the surrounding fields.
“We have also established carefully considered building covenants to ensure the homes here will meet a high standard.”
Potential purchasers can be assured that these covenants will be upheld.
Design and landscaping plans will be thoroughly checked and reviewed.
There is already brisk interest in the development, including from potential North Island buyers with a keen appreciation for the value of what’s on offer.
The first five sections are on the market for between $289,000 and $299,000. Titles are due around Christmas.
“We see this as an attractive option for retired farmers who still want that country lifestyle and for families looking for more space but who don’t want to be spending all their spare time looking after a lifestyle block,” John says.
