Company director Hamon McKay has been building for 18 years. Born and bred in Te Awamutu, he continues to base his business there, employing local skills from the Waipa district and winning projects by engaging that most powerful advertising tool – word of mouth.
Superior Building is currently completing about half its workload on new homes and half on renovations. A great variety for the team of five including two apprentices, keeping them learning and the rest of the team refreshed.

Hamon says the construction market boom, the scarcity of sections, and the cost of building new homes have resulted in many people in original homes looking to renovate rather than build.
Superior Building specialises in a turn key service for all residential building, from alterations to additions to quality new homes from entry level to high-end.
Hamon loves to get involved right at the start of a project, from planning or dig-out stage where he can get the practical aspects dealt with properly early on.
“We offer professional architectural design services as well as interior design services to ensure smooth running of the entire project from design and engineering through to the floor coverings, appliances, furnishing, and landscaping,” Hamon says.
“We make sure we’re flexible because it depends how involved our clients want to be.”
He works closely with his clients in a full contract project management role, taking control of all subcontractors ensuring that the entire project runs on time and to budget.
Superior Building also offers labour only and managed labour-only contracts, which still involve Hamon working closely together with the client and designer in the management of the project.
Te Awamutu based Superior Building offers professional architectural design services as well as interior design services.
He will take on any management role that suits the client’s experience, time frame, and budget. Hamon is on the job for the majority of the project, working with a manageable crew who take pride in the quality of their workmanship.
