New apartments highly sought after

St Andrew’s Village in Glendowie, Auckland, has just released 48 new apartments to the market for people over the age of 70.
They will offer a mix of fully independent living with the option of associated services offered by St Andrew’s Village as desired, says St Andrew’s Village retirement living manager Judy Armour.
She says the project has already generated a lot of community interest and has a sizable list of people wanting to purchase.
The complex has the feel of a condominium, she says, with a communal foyer with two lifts leading to three apartments located on each floor.
Offered are one- and two-bedroom options with high spec fit-outs including custom made kitchens and vanities, Bosch appliances, stone bench tops, automated roller blinds and hotel-style fully tiled bathrooms.
The apartments will be modern and warm with high quality insulation and double-glazing. They will offer an ensuite and a separate additional toilet.
The architecturally designed building will be made from concrete slab with vertical slats for privacy and shading.
The building will also offer a range of other common areas for residents including a cafe, restaurant, cinema, hairdresser, recreational and wellness rooms where visiting consultants will be available for residents. The apartments are due to be completed in 2019.
The apartments will complement the existing independent villas at St Andrew’s Village, which offer two and three bedroom homes on a license to occupy basis.
The last of the villas was completed over two years ago and Judy says there is a waiting list of people waiting for one to become available.
Owned and operated by an independent charitable trust, St Andrew’s Village has been providing holistic and caring lifestyle alternatives to older people for over 60 years.
Offered is a full range of temporary and permanent care options as well as fully independent living choices.
St Andrew’s Village aged residential care facility options include rest home care, dementia care, hospital care, respite and short term care services, palliative care and services for younger people with a disability in an aged care facility.
Services include nutritious and well prepared meals, activities, exercises and interest groups including outings, 24-hour medical and nursing care, podiatry, a pastoral care team and library including a computer for internet access.

Bus stops are outside the main entrance and the shopping centres of St Heliers, Eastridge and Mission Bay are nearby Judy says that residents can be as socially involved as they like.
“We have a full calendar of activities and events designed to suit the varied interests of our independent living residents. There are plenty of regular activities to choose from and also events to suit festive times of the year,” she says.
“Our events and activities include organised trips to musical and dance shows, vineyards or inter village quiz or bowls competitions to name just a few. We also encourage residents to continue with the groups and clubs that they enjoy outside the village.”
For those that are no longer quite so independent St Andrew’s Village also offers a 190 bed hospital care facility and, recently completed, two dementia wards – one for males and one for females – each catering for ten patients.
Judy says that the dementia units offer a home-like feel where residents are encouraged to participate in life as fully as they are able.

As St Andrew’s Village is a charitable trust which has served the residents of Auckland’s Eastern Suburbs since 1957 it also relies on the generosity of the community for both donations and volunteers in order to supplement the quality of the care provided.
Judy says developments such as the villas and apartments help the village to continue to offer a very high quality of service to all residents and due to this and the tranquil setting it continues to be a very popular place to reside.
