Convenience the key for airport hotel
Rydges Wellington Airport has proved a winner with travellers.

The convenience of the four-star Rydges Wellington Airport hotel makes it hard to beat, especially for corporate travellers, says hotel general manager Chad Johnston.
“We are the first hotel in New Zealand fully connected and integrated with an airport terminal. Basically people just need to get off the plane then walk up a couple of flights of steps,” he says.
Rydges Wellington Airport has 134 hotel rooms and since the hotel opened mid February it has experienced strong occupancy rates, he says.
“The hotel has the added benefit of being a plane spotter’s delight – with most rooms having extensive views out to Lyall Bay and directly out over the runway.
Due to triple glazing vacuum pack windows you won’t hear a thing though.”
Rooms come with couches, free movies, SkyTV and unlimited WiFi with good connectivity.
Twenty four check in/check out and room service makes it very convenient for those late night and early morning flights, says Chad.
The hotel also offers day use rates to cater for early morning departures and those who have a long connection between flights, providing a convenient place to rest and relax.
Other facilities include an on-site gymnasium and use of the airport car park at a discounted rate.
The hotel also caters to conferences and events with a conference centre offering six meeting rooms with capacity for up to 160 people.
Chad says the conference centre is split into two parts, each offering three smaller rooms which can be opened up to a larger space if required.

“For example regional managers could fl y in for a meeting for a day then fl y out again. They don’t need to waste time going from the airport to another location as everything is right here. This means they can make the most of their working day.”
The conference centre can also offer catering through the hotel’s bar and restaurant, which can seat up to 200 people.
The conference centre, restaurant and bar can also be used for events and functions making for a unique venue as they provide expansive views over the airport terminal and runway.
“We can certainly accommodate groups of different sizes and configurations from meetings to conferences to cocktail parties and events.”
He says that the hotel décor is modern and distinct featuring original artwork by prominent New Zealand artists like Peter Hackett in the hotel’s lobby and entranceway.
Each room in the hotel also has a one-of-a-kind commissioned black and white photograph show-casing a different central New Zealand location.
