Vibrant retail hub opens in Queenstown
Queenstown Central provides local residents and the rapidly increasing visitor community with the perfect destination for an all-encompassing shopper experience.

Designed to reflect the dramatic backdrop of The Remarkables mountain range, Queens-town Central—the region’s newest open-air shopping experience—is positively humming with excitement.
With Stage One of the development recently completed, replete with Kmart as its anchor tenant, Queenstown Central embraces a clever mix of forty local and big brand retailers providing an overarching sense of energy and vibrancy.
Soul Food Organic, Social Clothing & Co, Iron + Ivy Hair and Beauty, Meat Preachers, Black and White Coffee Cartel and Jamies Jewellers are just some of the local offerings complementing national stores like Macpac, Spark, Whitcoulls and Mountain Warehouse.
Privately owned, the centre is operated and managed by Colliers International, bringing with it significant experience managing a number of shopping centres throughout New Zealand.
Emma Allen, marketing manager for Colliers International says there is feeling of vibrancy with the retailers passionate about the centre.
“I think there is an opportunity to create a centre that has a genuine community feel but delivers that in a really modern and progressive way.
Shopping centres need to offer something new and fresh to the shopping experience and I think Queenstown Central has all the ingredients for that.
“That feeling is enhanced with the centre’s location. You cannot help but take in the views as you are experiencing the centre and that is one of the nice things about it.”
Ideally located off SH6, Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway, Queenstown Central provides local residents and the rapidly increasing visitor community with the perfect destination for an all-encompassing shopper experience
“You can have some lunch or a coffee, do your grocery shopping, get your fashion fix and all those home essentials— it is just great to have it all in one place without having to go into Queenstown’s busy CDB to do it. The feedback we get is that it is becoming increasingly convenient as a place to go for multiple things. And there is plenty of parking, free for the first three hours, which is another real bonus for the centre.”

Simon Holloway, general manager for Queens-town Central Ltd explains the vision behind the centre;
“We wanted that authentic main street walking type retail experience with a scale and proportion of shop fronts reflecting a diversity of specialty retailing whilst maintaining an overall unity within the development—we’ve gone two-stories because it provides that kind of scale, feel and mix of uses.”
A pedestrian and vehicular retail main street runs through the development linking Grant Road and Hawthorne Drive.
A series of attractive two-story buildings line either side of the road, with upper levels designated for office space.
A key feature of the development will be a Town Square, providing an energised town centre social vibe.
That, along with additional retail, is scheduled for the next stage of construction.
“With Stage One now completed it has been exciting to see what the retailers have done with their shop fit-outs,” says Evan Harris, national retail manager for Colliers International.
“We now look forward to finalising plans for the next stage of this exciting development.”
