Perfectly located on the fertile volcanic soils of Pukekohe—New Zealand’s mecca for vegetable production, Punchbowl Packaging’s roots dig deep within the world of horticulture.

Proudly family owned and operated with a history spanning 30 years, Punchbowl Packaging is part of vertically integrated family of companies, spanning everything from orchards to post-harvest facilities to horticultural packaging solutions.

“Our business is grounded in horticulture packaging such as bulk bags, different corner boards for pallet protection and reflective ground cover, “ says Shane Craig, Punchbowls General Manager. “As much as we have off the shelf products our real competitive advantage is bringing a unique design focus coupled with world leading sustainable material knowledge to deliver tailored packaging solutions. We’ve even done beauty product packaging. The sky really is the limit when it comes to packaging!”

A strong advocate for the environment and sustainability Punchbowl Packaging is striving down the recyclable and compostable path and supporting the ever-increasing need for the circular economy.

Punchbowl Packaging is also a supplier of automation equipment and has partnered with Dutch automation experts, Niverplast, to bring world-leading solutions to New Zealand.

“As New Zealand agents, we work to deliver automating packing lines across a multitude of industries and Countries.”

Reflecting on what has made Punchbowl Packaging successful over the years, Shane says it is in no small part due to the diverse nature of the type of products that it can offer.

Punchbowl Packaging’s peel-able, re-sealable, tamper-proof top-seal fibre punnets claimed the Gold Award in Sustainability category of the 2019 Australia and New Zealand Packaging Innovation & Design Awards (PIDA).

“We went on to win a WPO Worldstar 2020 Award in the Food category and Packaging Materials & Components Category. We work with the core fundamentals and values of what a business requires and partner to develop a unique solution. From the kiwifruit and apple side of our history we are able to understand the constraints, dreams, desires and requirements of the business and strive to develop and provide the best packaging solution that truly delivers the solution that adds value to our customers.”
