Providing homes a rewarding project
Precision Construction enjoys creating warm, sustainable homes for tenants to enjoy.

Precision Construction’s work on the award winning Jennings Street and Jersey Avenue project in Mt Albert, Auckland demonstrates the company’s ability to complete large projects on time and on budget, says Precision Construction managing director Grant Millar.
The project comprised demolition of eight 1940’s houses on a 3,649 square metre site and replaced them with 10 two-bedroom, four threebedroom and four four-bedroom homes. Grant says it was the architectural design of the project by Monk Mackenzie that set it apart.
The duplex units are positioned so parking can be included, which has allowed a reduction of scale and the provision of shared spaces.
The increased ceiling heights to 2.7m have resulted in living spaces that feel generously sized while still keeping within Housing New Zealand’s tight budget and programme. The homes are double glazed, well insulated and included outdoor living areas.
The project was a 2018 New Zealand Institute of Architects award for the Auckland region in the housing multi unit category and won a merit in the Property Council awards.
Grant says the main construction challenge was the fact that the site was situated on predominantly volcanic rock requiring specialised rock breaking and drilling in order to complete foundation work and installation of services
Due to Precision Construction’s vast experience having completed numerous Housing New Zealand projects previously the build itself was fairly straight forward for the team, says Grant.
“We find it very rewarding to complete these types of projects as we are creating structurally stronger warm sustainable homes for tenants to enjoy,” he says.
Precision Construction was originally founded in 1979 with the focus being alterations, additions and the construction of new townhouses in Auckland. Today Grant and company quantity surveyor Danny Spooner are the directors of Precision Construction.
Grant says the company has been established on a philosophy of getting things right first time.
“Our aim is always zero defects at the end of a project. It’s a policy of professionalism and delivering on what we say we will – adhering to programmes and budgets and finishing on time.
It sounds easy but it’s anything but, especially in the current Auckland building market which is extremely busy. The fact we can achieve these things for our clients demonstrates our experience and expertise,” he says.
Precision Construction works on architecturally designed homes, multi-unit developments, additions, alterations and light commercial construction for a broad spectrum of clients. Grant says that the company’s unique systems allow it to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
“Utilising these systems, in particular a unique quality assurance programme, gives us the ability to successfully construct projects of superior quality,” explains Grant.
Combined with the right health and safety systems Precision Construction is the construction company of choice for many significant clients.
The company employs a health and safety officer and health and safety administrator and holds ACC WSMP Tertiary level, Sitewise Green level and Impac PreQual 4 star level.
All site managers are Site Safe and First Aid certified. At present Precision Construction has a wide variety of projects underway all over Auckland including projects for Housing New Zealand, a multi unit site project in Mangere East and multiple new homes. Grant says clients recognise the clear benefits of dealing with Precision Construction:
“Their project will be undertaken by a company with almost 40 years’ experience and managed by experts in their field, supported by an in-house team and monitored by the directors who are committed, motivated and innovative.
The result is projects that are guaranteed to meet completion deadlines with cost effective solutions and above industry standard workmanship.”
