New Health Centre generating interest

Local Waikato building firm Livingstone Building NZ is working on the new Otorohanga Health Centre, a significant project for the region, says Livingstone project manager Greg McAllister.
Located at 13 Kakamutu Road, the sizable project includes a new medical centre, circulation rooms, doctors’ consulting rooms, waiting rooms, casualty and resus facilities, x-ray area, minor theatre, pathlab, ultrasound room, medicine room and a pharmacy.
Specialised equipment has necessitated unique services including for robotics for the pharmacy.
He says challenges faced to date include timber piles driven 10 metres deeper in a significant number of areas than anticipated based on the supplied geotechnical report.
The project also has a tight time line – it was started in September last year and is due for completion in May 2019.
“It’s about being proactive in ensuring all the subcontractors are aware of the tight time frame and scheduling work to be completed to ensure adequate resources,” says Greg. The centre has been possible due to community funding and donations.
Greg says the project has generated a lot of community interest and Livingstone has responded to many enquiries during the build.
“It’s a unique build so it’s important to have good communication, both with the public and the parties directly involved in the project. The communication needs to be seamless to ensure a successful outcome. At Livingstone we aim to go above and beyond expectations to ensure everyone is happy.”
He says that Livingstone has focused on engaging local contractors where possible. From the Otorohanga district Livingstone is working with teams from OTC Timber Co, Neustroski Plumbing and Gas, Action Electrical, 1st Scaffolding, Murray Hunt Flooring Xtra and BT Solutions.
We understand that medical centres are at the heart of the community and are pleased to be working with local trades. A team of subcontractors from around the region are also on board and we are looking forward to completing the project on time and on budget.”
Based in Hamilton, Livingstone Building NZ has extensive history in working on projects within the healthcare sector including working with the District Health Board on projects from the mandel in the north down to Mt Ruapehu in the south. The company had its beginnings in 1947 as Cavanagh Brothers Limited.
