All in Control – NZ Controls Ltd

“It’s not just about operating the machinery. Our systems can provide data that gives businesses key information to help them run their operations better.”

NZ Controls Operations and Project Manager Dave Lee

World-class engineering team NZ Controls was the obvious choice for Winstone Wallboards to ensure their new Tauranga GIB plant would stay ahead of industry demands. NZ Controls Operations and Project Manager Dave Lee says a key consideration in assisting the team with designing the systems for the facility has been determining what opportunities emerging technologies would offer both now and into the future.

“Controlling and monitoring of processes and operation is key to a secure and sustainable manufacturing business. Automation of processes is vital and can result in significant direct cost reductions but also importantly ensure repeatable and high-quality products are produced,” he says.

NZ Controls has worked with GIB on projects previously and is involved with the Joints and Finishing batching plant at their new Tauriko operation. NZ Controls will complete the functional descriptions, electrical design, SCADA development, PLC programming, and be responsible for the electrical panel manufacture, installation and commissioning of the plant. It will also assist with post commissioning support as required.

Since its inception in 2005, NZ Controls has built a highly skilled team that has led the company to become a major engineering service provider and advisor to many of New Zealand’s building product manufacturers. With over 30 engineers spread over two offices in Auckland and Tauranga, NZ Controls offers the experience and capability allowing them to take on a diverse range of projects and challenges. Services include consulting and advice, automation and control, electrical engineering, machine and process safety, digitisation and data analysis. It provides practical advice, business case development and delivery of Industry 4.0 solutions to ensure its customers stay ahead of their competition. Dave says this might involve systems integration and interconnectivity, data management, analysis, and realisable insights, automation of process and systems, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and smart user interactions and interfaces such as apps, dashboards, voice and augmented reality. Company director Brett Bartlett says that the data that its solutions can generate is an incredibly important part of the services provided.

“It’s not just about operating the machinery. Our systems can provide data that gives businesses key information to help them run their operations better.”

Brett says that NZ Controls is laser focused on constantly evolving to keep pace with technology changes to be able to provide the latest solutions to its customers.

“We offer our clients new opportunities to innovate and improve efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness. Our mix of experience and enthusiasm allows us to constantly challenge how and what we are doing to bring the best technologies to our customers and get real results.”

Both Brett and Dave say that NZ Controls highly values building and maintaining strong relationships with customers such as GIB and looks forward to looking after their needs into the future.
