Nelmac extends its landscaping reach
Nelmac’s landscaping division has completed a wide range of signifi cant projects in the Nelson/Marlborough region.

Nelmac’s landscape architecture team is growing and the past three years has seen the company gain some significant and high profile projects.
Senior landscape architect Lance Roozenburg joined the Nelson company three years ago, and one of his foundation projects was the design of the Greenmeadows Community and Sports centre project for Nelson City Council.
“This is an exciting project and a cornerstone for the fast growing Stoke Community,” he says.
“It was run as a design competition and it was a great foundation project for me, having arrived in Nelson from Christchurch where I worked on extensive developments.”
Nelmac’s landscape construction team is now completing the landscape works through a subcontract to Watts and Hughes Construction, the main contractor. “We are working together to achieve a really strong result,” Lance says.
Nelmac’s landscape architecture and ecology team provides master planning, site modelling for large scale infrastructure projects, subdivision development and CBD upgrades, landscape detailing, consultation, cost scheduling and project management expertise across a growing client base.
Last year Nelmac worked on the upgrade to Rutherford Park, which connects the iconic Maitai Walkway and the national cycleway.
It draws upon the development of the large open space area and merges with the Nelson CBD. “As a subcontractor to Opus we developed planning for the site,” Lance says.
“The design incorporates pathway connections, boardwalks, and a large swathe of courtyard outside the new northern extension and really considers how people use and interact with the space.”
Nelmac is now working through the planning of the Blenheim Forum and Marketplace spaces as part of the development of open, people filled spaces in the CBD.
Master planning and urban design are a strong part of Nelmac’s delivery and the team understands asset management, maintenance, and development schedules for landscapes.
Nelmac professional services and ecology leader Belinda Reburn says Nelmac is becoming a strong environmental contractor and is completing projects across New Zealand.

Wetland design, ecological management plans, and large scale plantings plans are an important piece of the Nelmac fabric.
“Amongst our teams we include terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecologists, GIS planning, and a nursery which eco-sources native plants.
Belinda says Nelmac’s vision is to “enhance New Zealand’s environment for community wellbeing, have a positive impact, strive to do things differently, and care about the community through a relentless pursuit of zero harm.”
