Moa expands into in-shed feed systems

Nathan and Tania Hitchcock, of Moa Milking and Pumping, have been delivering innovative solutions and proven results for the dairy industry for more than 20 years.
Moa Milking and Pumping provides the highest quality of milking systems, components, water and effluent systems from reputable brands including Waikato Milking Systems.
Moa Milking and Pumping has recently expanded into in-shed feeding systems, an area with huge growth seeing the company design, build, and install 20 to 25 new in-shed feeding systems a year.
Moa Milking and Pumping builds its own units to keep prices competitive, and is happily turning every quote into a job.
From two locations in Taranaki and Waikato, Moa Milking and Pumping is a trusted business partner to farmers and lifestylers who demand reliability, performance, and service 24/7 to ensure their dairy or agricultural business is performing at its best.
“We focus on solutions that make a real impact on the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of your farm,” Nathan says. “Our experienced installation and service staff ensure that you get what you need – reliable, high quality equipment with minimum downtime.
We offer a free site visit to ascertain your requirements, whether this is servicing to optimise the performance of current equipment or upgrading or a new installation, and a no obligation assessment and proposal.”
Nathan has worked in various roles within the dairy industry since 1998, when he started at Eric Young Farm Services, a local Waikato Milking Services dealership. He learned his trade and studied agricultural engineering at Massey University.
In 2003 he headed to the UK for his OE, installing Waikato Milking Systems milking plants throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
During this time, Waikato Milking Systems approached Nathan to establish a new dealership in Inglewood, Taranaki, so on his return home in 2005, Nathan started Moa Milking and Pumping.
After successfully operating within Taranaki, Waikato Milking Systems presented Nathan with the opportunity to fi t their rotary platforms for the lower North Island in 2009.
This led to the introduction of Moa Rotary Platforms, with Nathan eventually securing the rights to install and service all of Waikato Milking System platforms for the entire North Island.
Moa Rotary Platforms opened an office in Matamata in 2012, with a team of four installation and service crew to complement the 12-strong Taranaki team and solely work on rotary platform installation and service.

Moa Milking and Pumping’s extensive product range includes the Centrus composite dairy platform (top), Orbit rotary platform (above left), Lowline Herringbone and Groundfos submersible pump.

From Matamata and Inglewood, Moa Rotary Platforms works closely with every other Waikato Milking Systems dealer in the North Island to install and service every new Waikato rotary platform the gets sold. “We’ve got a lot of experience now and we don’t have to stay away for too long,” Nathan says.
“It is going really well, and we’re going to model another business on the Matamata operation down in Taranaki.”
He says the relationship with Waikato Milking Systems is critical, and has been built up over his whole career. “I think Waikato is the only way to go in New Zealand,” he says.
“It’s New Zealand made, so if something goes wrong, I can call the person who designed it and even the person who made it. There is more chance of getting things repaired and the backup is going to be greater with something designed and made in New Zealand. On top of that it’s a great product!” In 2013, Moa Milking and Pumping’s Inglewood premises was completely destroyed by a devastating fire.
Its new, purpose built premises has set the company up for a bright future.
