Kapiti design, build, and project management company Mulholland Construction now has its own design team, with Madd Architecture starting up a year ago and looking after clients building with Mulholland Construction and other building firms, from Paekakariki through to Levin.
Ange Melville heads the new design team and says while Mulholland Construction has always offered design-and-build services since it was established in 1999, with owner Paul Mulholland working with architects on design, frustrations and delays led him to believe his clients would be better off if he could offer architectural services from in-house.
“The quality and family values behind Mulholland Construction have filtered through to Madd Architecture,” Ange says.
“When people come to Mulholland Construction and see the quality building knowledge, they are more inclined to trust Madd Architecture with their design,” she says. “A lot of clients find it easier to have builders and architects on the same team.”
Via Mulholland Construction, Madd Architecture has been designing a huge variety of construction projects from standard residential renovations right up to large commercial buildings.
“Our clients all work in different ways and have different needs,” Ange says.
“Commercial design is so different to residential, but it also provides knowledge and experience that can help with residential designs as well.”
For its first year of operation, Madd Architecture has run a small skilled team of designers and project managers who work alongside them using a collaborative and responsive design process.
Madd Architecture works closely with clients and each project’s builder to ensure all expectations are met to a high standard. Paul has 20 years of experience in the construction industry and a vast amount of knowledge that is essential to any project.
“Having the Mulholland Construction team close by allows us to gain a lot of knowledge and information, especially about how they read the plans and turn them into reality,” Ange says.
Madd Architecture has been designing a huge variety of construction projects from standard residential renovations right up to large commercial buildings.
“Everyone reads plans differently, but our main goal is to have some of the best construction plans out there. Plans builders can price off accurately, can read correctly, and can get through council without any hiccups.”
Seeing this process in action as Madd Architecture plans come to fruition attests to the fact the company is well on the way to achieving its goal.
“One of our current jobs, a new multi-milliondollar home now under construction for a client on Waikanae Beach, is being perfectly executed and built to plan due to the extensive consultation and preparation put in at the outset by the team. It will be among Kapiti’s most elite properties.”
Ange and the team visit each construction site weekly for updates, and at milestone moments in the construction process such as the cladding going on. “I’ll go out to make sure it’s all going alright.”
Madd Architecture doesn’t finish a project until construction is complete, and even once the building is handed over to its owner, the company is on hand and available to answer any questions. She says Madd Architecture is growing and has an intense amount of work on.
Kapiti is growing, and so are the reputations of bot h Mulholland Construction for quality building services and Madd Architecture for quality design services.
