The 700sqm home includes 35 tonnes of structural steel and 760 individually cut blocks making up curved interior walls.

LBG Builders has just moved to Whitianga and is now offering its services in this region. Originally based in Auckland, company directors Laureen and Brett Goodger wanted to escape the hustle and bustle after working on a project in Whitianga that took two years and saw them fall in love with the place.
They say they see Whitianga as a growth area with plenty of opportunities to build the high end architecturally designed homes they excel at. They will work in areas such as Hot Water Beach, Pauanui, Coro-mandel, Whangapoua, Matarangi and Opito Bay.
“We believe in building with quality materials and maintaining an extremely high building standard. It’s important to have a good working relationship with your building company.
“Coromandel customers are involved at every step in the building process with site visits, photo updates or regular phone calls for those based further afield. We work closely with our clients so that the finished product meets their exact requirements,” explains Brett.
The couple started their company in 2006. Brett is a qualified third-generation builder with over 25 years building experience while Laureen is an accountant and leads the office team. Brett says it is his building expertise combined with Laureen’s financial acumen that has made the company a success.
“This means we can offer our clients very transparent pricing and fortnightly reports on where the build is at, comparing the budget to the actual amount spent, so the client is fully informed at all times,” he says.
Brett enjoys the challenge of understanding what the client wants and making it happen as evidenced on a recently completed project at Whitianga Waterways.
Designed by Pacific Environments, a company that LBG Builders has worked with many times before, the project was a perfect fit for Brett and his team. “It was such a large complex job that we were the right ones to tackle it,” he says.
A quick initial meeting with the client convinced Brett and Laureen that they could work together successfully on the project. The 700sqm home includes 35 tonnes of structural steel and 760 individually cut blocks making up curved interior walls, which the staircase, with a curved glass balustrade, cantilevers off.
The home includes four bedrooms, a gymnasium, four bathrooms, a powder room, and a drive through boat garage. Outside is a pontoon for the owners’ launch. The two storey home also includes a glass lift, full automation and a 50sqm outdoor living area with retracting louvres.

It is rich in detail including special automated lighting, cast bronze front door handles with a be-spoke design personal to the clients and marble waterfall kitchen bench. LBG Builders employed a small talented team to complete the project.
As a member of New Zealand Certified Builders all LBG Builders’ work is backed by Lloyds of London with a Halo 10-year residential building guarantee.
Brett says having happy clients is the aim of LBG Builders: “It makes us feel good to build someone their dream home.”
