An example of the architecturally designed homes that Karl Kampenhout Builders is renowned for - awarded silver.

Hamilton based company Karl Kampenhout Builders has been consistently winning awards at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition for years.
“This really demonstrates that our entire team, including subcontractors, is consistently producing top quality builds, delivering high levels of workmanship and service to our clients,” says Karl Kampenhout.
In 2019 the company won gold in the Waikato awards in the New Homes $750,000-$1m category as well as silver in the New Homes $1.25-2m category.
The gold award winner, designed by Christopher Beer Architect, is a contemporary take on a traditional style country style home. Located on the outskirts of Cambridge town ship and positioned at the base of Maungakawa Hill, the 274 sqm home includes three bedroom and two living areas.
Most rooms in the home frame stunning views of the mountain. It has been designed so that one wing can be closed off and used as guest or bed and breakfast style accommodation if desired.
The country style board and batten cladding, corrugated iron roofing, exposed rafters, solid timber post and beams all give the home a warm comfortable feel, says Karl.
The interior of the home includes special features such as the solid oak flooring, timber sarking to the vaulted ceiling in the main kitchen/dining/family room, along with recycled brick to various feature walls and around the free-standing fire.
The exterior also uses recycled brickwork and includes an outdoor entertaining area and open fireplace. Karl says the build necessitates a lot of detailed work, demonstrating the skills of the Karl Kampenhout team.
The silver award winning home is located at Tamahere and consists of cedar and stone wall claddings, thermally broken joinery and solar rib roofing.
The home comprises three modules – the main bedroom suite, the main kitchen and living areas, along with a snug and utility rooms, and a third module containing children’s bedrooms and rumpus room, guest bedroom, study and double garage.
The home has three gourmet kitchens, comprising of a forward, after and outdoor kitchen. Both of the award winning homes are good examples of the type of architecturally designed houses, which Karl Kampenhout Builders specialise in.
Karl started the company in 1998 after completing his apprenticeship for a commercial firm then working for a high-end residential builder.
He worked on Hamilton House, New Zealand’s first fully sustainable urban home and he is an enthusiastic supporter of sustainable features included in homes where possible, giving clients options so that they can make informed choices.
Karl Kampenhout Builders caters for all aspects of building a new home, from initial discussions and ideas of the concept, to the final completion of quality new homes, additions and alterations.
The company also completes light commercial projects such as early childhood centres and more challenging builds such as off-the-grid homes.
Also provided are building services for creative pool designs, fences, retaining walls, decks/pergolas and landscaping. Karl is proud that most work is by word of mouth and reflects his strong focus on customer service.
“My business has been built on reputation. It’s 100% word of mouth; my last build is where my next build comes from. I’m very proud of that.”
