Queenstown’s latest visitor hostel targeting domestic travellers and international backpackers boasts a rooftop pizzeria and bar, lake views and an exceptional central location in the heart of the tourist town.
JUCY Snooze Queenstown opens its third New Zealand tourist hostel on 6th April 2018, and bookings have been coming in thick and fast since they opened online last October, says JUCY Group Limited product and marketing manager Charli Bateson.
By early this year bookings had already reached 70 per cent occupancy for the first month, with the first Contiki Tours groups due on day one.
Queenstown developer Ian Hamilton released plans last year to build the 276-bed hostel by adding two floors on top of the CBD building his company Oxford Holdings Ltd owns on the corner of Camp and Memorial Streets, opposite the Recreation Ground, previously occupied by three bars – Malbas Tavern, Camp Street Brewing Company and Xtreme Sports Bar.
The project which has been built over 18 months by contractors Naylor Love, was managed by Peak Projects from Queenstown.
The design by JCY Architects’ Queenstown office features stone and cedar weatherboard cladding materials, and Fuman Design team from Auckland added their stamp of design to the interiors for the rooftop bar.
The five-level JUCY Snooze Queenstown features the universal bright purple and green colours in its interior décor which are themed across the other Snooze hotels at Auckland and Christchurch Airport, as well as the JUCY rental vehicles.
While onsite car parking isn’t offered – JUCY’s car and camper rental is based at Queenstown Airport – Charli says public transport goes from 1 minute down the road on Camp St to JUCY Rentals and the airport.
Guests can check in speedily using kiosks, hang out in the rooftop pizzeria & bar , Miss Lucy’s, do their laundry and get advice and book travels and local activities from the travel desk.
Accommodation options include private quad queen and quad ensuite rooms or two-metre long capsules called JUCY Pods that can be completely enclosed.
“JUCY Snooze will be conveniently located for visitors to enjoy shopping, tourist activities, restaurants and any of the multitude of activities going on day and night in and around Queenstown,” says Charli.
Accommodation options include private queen and quad ensuite rooms or guests will be able to room-share with up to seven others nestled separately in cosy two-metre long capsules or “JUCY Pods” that can be completely enclosed, and also feature secure storage lockers.
Charli says more than 30 new jobs will be created in Queenstown servicing the new hostel which will help relieve the accommodation shortage in the town.
