Firm’s success built on integrity, quality
Ironclad Roofing specialises in all aspects of metal roofing and cladding, from long run and metal tile roofs to fascia, spouting, down pipes, and parapet capping.

With its emphasis on customer service, working with integrity, and taking the care and time to ensure each job is carried out to the highest standard, Tauranga’s Ironclad Roofing has completed 350 residential roofs in the past year, and is now looking to build its light commercial portfolio.
Ironclad Roofing was started in early 2011 by local qualified roofers and Licensed Building Practitioners John Fletcher and Nick Sneddon.
The pair had previously worked together for five years, were being requested for every job, and believed they had the answer to some of the frustrations and complaints they were hearing in the industry.
“We knew our workmanship was very good, but we could see builders and customers getting frustrated with the lack of organisation,” Nick says.
“We thought we could do better, so Ironclad Roofing was born. We were just clawing out of the Global Financial Crisis and had a couple of friends who had started a building company Venture Developments, which is now one of the major players in Tauranga. Back then they were new to the market, building one house every four to five weeks, now it’s more than 10 a month. Ironclad Roofing did about 25 roofs in our first year, now it’s more than 300 new roofs and 50 odd re-roofs a year.”
Ironclad Roofing has built its staff up to 14, with another 10 on contract. The team is a mix of experienced roofers and keen young apprentices.
“They are training to become the next generation of professional tradies, and we believe they are the key to our continued success,” Nick says.

Ironclad Roofing is an agent for Metrotile Roofing Systems, an innovative manufacturer and supplier of affordable, lightweight, high quality metal roofing tiles.
“I learned my trade in metal roofing, and I’m a fan of it for a few reasons, not the least of which is it’s lightweight,” Nick says.
“It’s the metal that seems to sell really well. Colorsteel is the number one product in the market. A lot of building companies and home owners are moving away from heavyweight roofing since the earthquakes and moving towards lightweight roofing which has lots of seismic benefits, and also has a modern look which is what most of the building companies are trying to sell.”
Now expanding into the light commercial market, Ironclad Roofing has roofed 180 units at Freedom Lifestyle Villages’ new facility Papamoa Sands, has started roofing the 225-unit Cambridge Oaks Village with more in the pipe line.
Nick says working in Cambridge will give the company a base to launch from and an opportunity to expand over the hill from the Bay of Plenty into the Waikato region.
The cladding side of Ironclad Roofing has also been growing and the company is doing more cladding than it ever has before, with two teams cladding full time for the past 12 months.
“There has been a big shift in trends which happens in the market every 10 years or so,” Nick says.
“Metal cladding has become very popular. It’s a premium product with a high level of finishing.”
