Clients always come first for Geraldine builder Brett Horrell, whose team at Horrell Construction set the bar high for quality and workman-ship in South Canterbury.
Those thinking about a new home can browse Horrell Construction’s inspiring range of architecturally designed plans that offer superb options for contemporary living. It is easy to fall in love with these plans.
Last year, Horrell Construction built a gorgeous four-bedroom plus office, two-bathroom home at 81 Kalaugher Rd, Geraldine from one of these plans (‘Mano’) to showcase what’s possible. This home is currently for sale through Trade Me.
With a smart L-shaped design, the home comes with unparalleled outdoor living that connects seamlessly with an impressive open plan living and dining hub. The kitchen, complemented with butler’s pantry, is effortlessly contemporary.
Finished to an impeccable standard, this home is noteworthy for its high ceilings, space, openness and beautiful light-filled interiors. The property also boasts a double internal access garage with large loft storage, along with a five bay shed.
“We chose that particular plan as it really suited the location and the site,” says Brett, noting that the site itself was fairly steep with 2.5m of clay ground having to be cut out before building could commence.
“It features full height pivot doors; we have used no trim, skirting boards or architraves so as to give the modern seamless look we were after.”
This is just one of the many exciting house plans available through Horrell Construction. The team is proud to be bringing a point of contemporary difference to the South Canterbury market.
As Brett observes, it represents “a step out of the circle” compared to what has been traditionally available in the area. Horrell Construction is happy to work with clients who may have their own plan or who would like to start from scratch with a unique dream home design.
Its focus is on listening to clients and helping them achieve what they are seeking, in line with lifestyle and budget.

“We always start by asking our clients to share their ideas so we can get a clear understanding of what they want. “We work closely with them to get the best possible results.”
Brett grew up in Geraldine and, after completing his apprenticeship, worked as a builder for housing companies in Ashburton for four or five years. He founded Horrell Construction in 2011, with the company’s first house being one built for his parents in Tekapo.
Today, his company employs a staff of seven people including three apprentices. Horrell Construction, based in Geraldine, works with clients throughout South Canterbury.
Tekapo and Twizel have been high growth areas in recent years, though the team is also busy in Temuka, Timaru, Fairlie and beyond.
