Personal service sets company apart
Hibiscus Contractors has been involved in the development of multiple stages in the Millwater and Milldale developments.

This year Auckland based Hibiscus Contractors is celebrating 40 years in business. The company has forged a strong reputation over the past decades for completing projects on time and on budget. But it is the personal service that sets the company apart, thinks contracts manager Paul Wallace.
“We have always focused on building great relationships with our clients. Being a smaller company we can offer a very personal service and we are proud that most of our work is repeat business from satisfied clients,” he says.
During many years in business Hibiscus Contractors has been involved in the development of many major projects including multiple stages in the Millwater and Milldale developments at Silverdale.
The company is presently working on the civil-works for Stage 2D of Milldale after completing a civil road upgrade and civil works for stages 1A and 1B of the development.
Hibiscus Contractors has worked for Fulton Hogan Land Developments and engineering company Woods on many projects before and Paul says the companies enjoy a strong working relationship.“Everything is very organised and projects fl ow smoothly,” he says.
Based in Silverdale, north of Auckland, Hibiscus Contractors is a privately owned civil contracting company with the owners having hands on roles in the operation of the business. It was started by present managing director Lin-den Bawden who has been joined by his son Dean and Paul Wallace in the business. The company employs around 30 staff.
“We have a long track record and the relevant experience as a result of working on many diverse projects. It’s a huge history of civil contracting and expertise we bring to our clients’ projects,” explains Paul.Hibiscus Contractors works for a wide variety of clients throughout the North Island ranging from private developers to city and district councils.
Major projects over the years include head con-tractor for the Gulf Harbour golf course and canal development, contracts for Auckland and surrounding City Councils and numerous residential and commercial developments in the North Island.
Paul says it is the ability of Hibiscus Contractors to get the job done quickly and efficiently that keeps the company in demand. Hibiscus Contractors also operates a lime and cement stabilising division and undertakes lime drying of fill material both for its own projects and as a stand alone service.
On its own projects this creates efficiencies, giving greater control over timing and quality of projects, says Paul.Hibiscus Contractors is backed by its extensive well maintained fleet of civil construction equipment. The company has its own workshop and employs its own mechanic and engineer to ensure the fleet is always ready to go.
Paul says that Hibiscus Contractors offers a highly experienced management team with decades of local and overseas project experience and uses the services of specialist subcontractors when required to complement its own skill base.
The company has a proud health and safety record, with fully implemented procedures and practices in place for all aspects of the business including protecting the environment from harm.
“Safe, honest, professional, resourceful, focused, down to earth. “That’s how we have built our reputation over the past 40 years and will continue to do so into the future.”
