Timaru Company Genius Homes is demonstrating the many advantages of prefabricated houses where it matters – in quality, convenience and build time.
Sales manager Jeremy Richards says the turnaround for the residential and commercial buildings produced by Genius Homes factory is just 18 weeks.
The other key advantage is that we look after the whole process including the consenting and on-site services so it’s hassle free and we are also flexible on designs. You don’t have to worry about managing sub-contractors; it’s all done in our factory.”
The factory process also means there are no weather-related delays, especially during winter or any weather events. Genius Homes was the perfect choice for a Queenstown client wanting to help ease the town’s accomodation crisis.
The design of the commercial building specifi ed highlights the great versatility Genius Homes offers; the result was two, two story units comprising four modules with a footprint of 23m x 9.5m each to provide up to 32 bedrooms or 64 beds.
The facility has a shared lounge and kitchen and multiple bathrooms; once the modules were on site it was livable in about a month.
The project also highlighted the advantages of building off-site in areas where labour and contractors are in short supply.
This was especially true following the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes, Jeremy says.
“Genius Homes are ideal for that situation where there’s a fast turnaround needed and also minimum site disruption. We supplied a huge amount of homes into the eastern suburbs of Christchurch during 2015/2016.”
The company aims to complete work on-site within 20 working days once a house has landed; most of the site works are carried out before thehouse is delivered.
As well as commercial buildings, the company typically manufactures houses of two to five bedrooms, either from in-house designs or plans provided by clients. Today’s popular pavilion style houses are absolutely ideal for factory construction.
Companies like Genius Homes are paving the way in prefabrication in New Zealand, especially in improving the specification of designs and fit-out, Jeremy says.
It uses high quality materials from trusted, well known brands such as Colorsteel, Weathertex, Godfrey Hirst, Earthwool and Gib.
In addition, Genius Homes superior service doesn’t end once the key has been handed over; clients are provided with a 24-month maintenance guarantee as extra peace of mind while they settle into their new home.
Founded in 2010 with a team of only three people, Genius Homes was born from a passion to see more New Zealanders in affordable, healthy and practical homes.
Today the company employs more than 50 people and manufactures about 100 buildings a year.
Buildings are engineer designed with a strong steel sub-frame and high quality timber framing to ensure they exceed New Zealand building code requirements, with a 50 year steel frame structure warranty.
