A decade ago Paul Marshall and his brother Lyndon established Generation Homes Taupo & Rotorua. Today Paul is managing director and operates the busy residential housing business along with his team of three staff, who each specialise in an area of the company’s services.
“Unlike other group housing companies who operate a franchise system we are actually in a 50:50 partnership with the founders of Generation Homes in Tauranga,” says Paul.
“It’s a business model that works very well, with complete autonomy for the work we take on in our area but with the support of Generation Homes systems,” says Paul.
While Paul concentrates on sales and overseeing the business, Paul’s right-hand lady Aleisha Cameron assists with production and administration.
Fiona Connon assists with sales and engages with clients regarding colours and selection of fittings, and also liaises with the clients throughout the build process.
Construction manager Brad Russell completes the team with his expertise and attention to detail. Generation Homes Taupo & Rotorua has bought 19 sites on one street at Nga Roto Estate, on Lake Terrace, Taupo.
One of these sections at 2 Kamaka Street is home to the company’s recently unveiled showhome, based on the new four bedroom Tongariro plan.
The home has been designed to promote a relaxed way of living and one appealing feature of many is the situation of the master bedroom/ensuite in its own separate wing of the house.
There’s a sense of easy flow from one living space to another and the hub of the home, the kitchen, is positioned between the family, the dining and the living spaces. Sarked ceilings give a sense of loft and light airiness to the spaces below.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in the home since it opened in July but it is just one of several single and two-storey house-and-land packages we have in this area. Our website offers snap-shots of all the home’s features.”
Built of vertical cedar and timber weatherboard, with exposed trusses on the gables the showhome has a DVS ventilation system and heatpump, a 2.55 stud and large windows in the chapel shaped ceiling.
When Business Central spoke with Paul over half of the first offering of 19 sites had sold with six further homes constructed and a further four currently in with Council.
Paul describes Taupo Council’s home consenting processes as very positive. “There’s a lot of good energy with Council to enable new housing developments to grow in the district.”
Spreading their building footprint across Taupo, Rotorua and South Waikato keeps the team busy and Paul says he’s happy with the current capacity of the business.
Generation Homes Taupo & Rotorua also supplies homes for Landcorp Farms. While the company’s extensive selection of plans caters for a range of tastes and budgets Paul says the plans are flexible.
“They’re there to offer an initial building footprint but there is always space to change things around although we always stay within our set of core building values as this is important to achieve our promises. “You have to enjoy people and be trustworthy. Once a price is settled that’s not going to change.”
The showhome at Nga Roto Estate is open for inspection from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and noon to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
