Online Design and Build Ltd has placed creativity and design directly at new homebuyers’ fingertips, providing an easyto-use web-based tool to design the home of their dreams.
“Our website is fully interactive,” says Linda Fowler, who along with her husband Peter Hollow, owns the south Christchurch franchise for Online Design and Build.
“It’s a really good tool that allows people to sit in the comfort of their own home on a Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine and plan their new dream home, without any pressure.”
Clients enter the dimensions of a section into the website and a default range of plans are presented to select from.
Standard pricing is attached to each plan that can be personalised from the cladding and roof right down to the preferred underlay and tapware.
Once complete a revised cost of build is generated. Linda says clients can then call in to see the team at Online Design and Build’s show home where further refinements can be made to the plan or they may prefer to start completely from scratch.
With three decades in the building industry Peter Hollow was looking for greater control over the building process when he and Linda bought the franchise just on five years ago.
Peter spends his days on site liaising with the building crew, ensuring quality is of the highest standards and meeting with clients on site.
Linda brought experience as an early childhood teacher and says the creativity required to nurture young minds has proven to be transferrable when creating floor plans for new homes—that and the fact that she loves working with people of all ages.
Online Design and Build’s range of homes spans from the smaller home for first homebuyers and those downsizing, right through to larger homes from 220sqm to 300sqm. “At the moment we’re based in our show home in Lincoln,” says Linda.
“We want to be in the hub of where the majority of our building is so that we’re accessible for people to view our show home and talk to us.
“We’ve a lot of new homes coming up in Rolleston so when our show home in the Falcons Landing subdivision is complete in March we’ll be moving our base there.”
The new three bedroom show home in Falcons Landing features mixed exterior cladding of Midland Arena subway brick along with Linea Oblique vertical weatherboards. “Some of the exterior cladding has been brought into the house—there’s feature brick in the entrance way and some in the lounge.
“The open-plan kitchen, dining and living space has a hidden scissor truss with a raked cathedral ceiling, creating a sense of scale and space,” she says.
Linda says Online Design and Build South Christchurch has developed an extended family by using one team of builders along with a small team of trusted sub trades for all their construction work.
“When the need arises, they will go that extra mile. We certainly value the work that they do and nothing is taken for granted.”
