Jamie Fairbairn of Bay of Plenty building company Fairbairn Builders has been building quality his whole life. He strives for it, and won’t accept anything less. “The guys on my team are always learning, and always trying to keep up to the highest standard,” he says.
“I keep pushing for that, and I won’t settle for anything other than what is the best quality and best for my client.”
Two happy Fairbairn Builders customers ended up with quite different homes, but both required extremely high standards and precise attention to detail. Jamie shared his clients’ vision on both projects, and went the extra mile to perfectly manage every aspect of each build.
Belk Road Beauty is a stunning home in a peaceful rural setting, designed by one of Tauranga’s top architects Brendon Gordon of Brendon Gordon Architecture.
With two bedrooms and one bathroom, the design caters for first home buyers and also fi ts the size parameters for a secondary dwelling.
Exposed engineered trusses in the living area provide a point of difference and a spacious feel for a small area, while a pitched roof with flat areas on the front and back of the home gave Fairbairn Builders a challenge.
“This was a cool project for us because it made us think,” Jamie says.
“It was great to see it evolving as we built it, then to stand back at the end and see something we were proud of. Everyone who has seen it loves it, and it’s one of our jobs that’s had the most attention on Facebook.”
The second project, Papamoa Paradise, is a 260sqm mono-pitch home designed by Robin Baillie of Baillie Architectural.
High ceilings make a spacious feel throughout the living areas, and indoor outdoor flow is created by stacking sliders which open up the lounge and kitchen to the deck area. The home is clad with STO plaster system with weatherboard and feature stack bond honed blocks.

Fairbairn Builders is using Papamoa Paradise as a show home to demonstrate its capabilities in architecturally designed new builds.
For renovation clients, which make up about 70% of Fairbairn Builders’ work, Jamie shows off the renovation project he has completed on his own home in Tauranga.
“I can show them what it used to look like and what it looks like now, and give them a timeframe for a full internal renovation, full external re-clad, new windows, and new insulation because that’s what we did with my house.”

Jamie says the real estate market in Tauranga makes it difficult to buy a reasonably priced section which has resulted in many people renovating their existing homes for well under half the cost of buying a new home.
Jamie has been building for 20 years and has built and project managed both in New Zealand and in the UK.
He is supported in his work by his wife and accounts manager Amie, who is dedicated to accuracy and ensuring processes are as simple as possible.
