When it comes to putting a roof over your head, Cromwell based Extreme Roofing Ltd has got it nailed. Whether commercial or residential, Extreme Roofing has developed a reputation for having the right people in the right positions, offering the very best roofing product and service in Central Otago.
Established in 2013 by James Hay, Raphael Bow and Andy Monk, Extreme Roofing has grown from small beginnings to a team of 38 staff, handpicked for the skill sets, experience and strong work ethic. “When we first started we had about 10 staff,” says James.
“It took us a good 12 months to get some traction in the market and get our name out there. We’ve now got a good range of qualified roofing professionals, experienced leading hands, apprentices and a dedicated scaffold team.”
James says that while it can be difficult finding the right staff in the competitive Central Otago area, Extreme Roofing makes use of recruitment agencies to find good people throughout New Zealand including as far afield as Auckland.
“I think we’re pretty good at identifying quality people to work in our business—they have made our business what it is and enabled us to grow. We’re prepared to pay good money for the right people and we will look after them.”
Being younger local business owners, experienced in roofing and business management and with real ‘skin in the game’ are further reasons for Extreme Roofing’s keys to success. “We’ve specialised as a company that buys roofing product and installs it,” explains James.
“At the end of the day, it’s our business and our money that we have invested into it. That is a strong driver to deliver a good service and product to our customers.”
And the business is busy, with a large share of its residential work coming from the Queenstown and Wanaka areas.
James says that the residential work ranges from very high-end architectural work, often extremely technical in nature, to the more conventional work and everything in between.
A wide range of roofing products are offered including colour steel corrugated iron, flat roof membranes, slate tiles, cedar and asphalt and shingles, Gerard Metal Tiles and tray roofing—currently very on-trend in the Queenstown area. “Some of our commercial work has included hotels,” explains James.
“At the moment we’re working on the Queenstown Central shopping complex in Frankton. We’ve got a number of boathouses coming up in a new development in the Frankton Marina. The vast majority of our staff are Site Safe qualified, which means they follow Site Safe guidelines and are accredited to be working on site.”
With its own scaffolding equipment, including the INTAKS scaffolding and edge protection system, along with its own team of scaffolding professionals, Extreme Roofing provides its customers with a ‘one-stop-shop’ option for its roofing services.
As the name might suggest, Extreme Roofing also does quite a bit of work within the tourism industry, including for Queenstown tourism operator Trojan Holdings as well as for Mount Cook looking after the Hermitage.
“We also do a lot of maintenance projects along the Milford Track for Ultimate Hikes maintaining their huts—flying in and out by chopper.”
