With over two decades experience as an insurance assessor Dave Roberts, owner of Ensura Building Services, says his company offers a unique edge to customers which include insurance companies and the general public.
“I know how things work from both side of the fence as a builder and insurance assessor. I know what the insurance industry requires and how to keep them and their customers happy,” he says.
Dave, a builder, and wife Cheryl started their company in 2009 in Whangarei where the head office is still based.
Ensura Building Services almost exclusively focuses on insurance industry work and has built up considerable expertise in this specialized field.
When Ensura Building Services visits an insurance company’s client Dave says his team is able to give people onsite info, has knowledge of policies and what people can and can’t claim for. “We can give them advice that other builders who don’t understand the insurance industry so well can’t,” he says.
Dave has several quick tips for homeowners: understand your policy and what you are and aren’t covered for, be proactive on maintenance and always tell the truth to your insurance assessor.
He says these thing help people avoid problems in the first place and speed up the claims process in the even they do have to make a claim on their policy.
In the event they do need to claim typically people may be quite stressed as their insurance event may have involved trauma such as a fire or flood.
Dave says his team understands their unique situation and offers empathy, support and the right advice at this stressful time. “If people are stressed it’s our job to make things as easy as possible for them.”
He says being a family owned and operated company means they understand families and this helps them to maintain empathy for insurance company customers.
Dave is in charge of the building side of the operation including pricing, advising clients and project management. Cheryl takes charge of the administration side of their business. “It keeps us real,” says Dave.

“We are not a corporate company and are very family oriented. Our son Damon works for us as a builder and Damon’s wife Alicia works in the office with Cheryl. We can be on call 24/7 to respond to people’s needs.”
Health and safety is another important aspect and Ensura Building Services is graded green with the government accredited system SiteWise, the highest rating achievable, says Dave.
It is this along with the company’s high skill levels and unique understanding of the insurance industry that sees Ensura Building Services works for all insurance companies in New Zealand and ACC.
Dave says that Ensura Building Services likes to assist and support the local communities in which it works where possible and encourages staff to do the same.
In addition to its head office Ensura Building Services offers branches in Kerikeri, Dargaville, Rodney, West Auckland, Pukekohe, Taupo and a newly opened branch in Kaitaia to meet demand for its services.
Ensura Building Services can therefore services from Auckland north and has ambitions to one day service the entire North Island.
