Winning the Supreme award at the 2019 Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards was confirmation that first time entrant DCA Architects of Transformation is on the right track, says managing director Darryl Church.
“Entering made us ask questions of ourselves – why we exist, who we are and why we’re doing what we’re doing. It was a real opportunity to benchmark ourselves so winning meant a lot and was validation of the whole team here at DCA Architects of Transformation.”
He credits the appointment of Werner Naude as a shareholding partner and working with a business coach over recent years as having been a key turning point in the business, helping to cement the company’s vision and direction. The result has been significant growth over the past few years.
Over the past 23 years the practice has accumulated multiple design awards and international recognition for its projects. In 2017 Darryl was honoured with a lifetime achievement award from Resene in recognition of his use of colour in architecture.
Daryl says the company’s vision is to bring great architecture to New Zealand and the world.“Great architecture is a culmination of concept, design, innovation, quality and useability. Often it’s measured by how someone ‘feels’,” he explains.
“Our mission is to transform people’s lives through great architecture by imparting a better quality of life through an improved physical built environment. “Our approach is humanistic and people centric. We believe that the built physical environment has a wider impact than the owner’s immediate needs.
“Users, visitors, clients, the public and the community are all benefactors of a considered building design and public spaces. We believe our projects have the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone involved and everyone who might come into contact with them.”
The Westpac Rotorua Business Excellence Awards judges noted DCA Architects of Transformation’s customer focus as setting the company apart, along with quality and systems, business performance, planning and strategy.
Darryl says that DCA Architects of Transformation is always striving to establish good relationships with all associated with a project.
“We ensure we look after their needs, going above and beyond and making ourselves available often at short notice to service their projects. Our clients should feel the experience was great, and the project outcome was exceptional.”
He says that the best way the company measures customer satisfaction is the number of referrals and repeat business we receive. He is proud that DCA Architects of Transformation has a number of repeat clients.
DCA Architects of Transformation is currently one of the larger commercial architecture firms in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region. Darryl says the vision is to continue current growth, undertaking a variety of residential and commercial projects, remaining focused but adaptable.
