Taupo franchise goes from strength to strength
The home showcases the David Reid Homes ‘Pavilion’ series style.

Melissa and Scott Hare purchased David Reid Homes Taupo in August 2017, an existing business and one that had locally grown a good reputation.Scott is a qualified builder and experienced project manager with over 13 years’ experience in the construction industry.
He spends his time taking care of the project management and working through the design and pricing stage with clients while Melissa manages the administration for the franchise.Completing the team is Raewyn Mackie who is an essential part of the business. Raewyn helps clients with the all-important design elements they want to personalise their home.
Scott’s building and Raewyn’s design knowledge makes the pair a great team to provide clients with beautiful homes designed especially for them. The company has a show-home and office base in Nga Roto Estate and Melissa says feedback has been extremely positive about its design and feel.
“They absolutely love it. It has some really neat features including a hidden scullery behind purpose built cabinetry that people say adds a new dimension to the kitchen space.” The showhome showcases the David Reid Homes ‘Pavilion’ series style but was designed especially for the tricky section shape and setbacks.
he maximum use of the land shows how the team can work with clients to create great spaces using the land to its highest potential.“David Reid Homes has an extensive range of plans which we quite often tailor to suit clients’ needs. It’s a great resource to get people looking at options that suit them.
We work closely with our clients and Architect to ensure we design a house that fits both their needs and budget,” says Melissa. When the opportunity came along to buy the business their sense of its value and reputation has been confirmed with continued strong growth in interest from the market.
“Our first two years as the owners of David Reid Homes Taupo has been great. The growth in Taupo has been phenomenal.”Given this reality, plans are already afoot to build a new show-home next year in the same subdivision.
David Reid Homes Taupo, extends its building activity over a large geographic footprint, from Tokoroa through to Taihape and Taumarunui. When asked what contributed to their success Melissa feels it’s got a lot to do with the team.
“We know every single one of our clients. They all get to deal with just the three of us and having Scott as a builder by trade, with extremely high standards, means we deliver top quality consistently. We very much value our clients and their experience building with us.”
Success has continued in the form of a Silver Award in this year’s Master Builders House of the Year Awards for the Bay of Plenty/Central Plateau region.
The home caught the eye of the judges for its quirky elements, bold and clever use of colour and its use of materials such as swamp kauri, rail hung barn doors, designer wall tiles and stone basins.“The home is a whole mixture of different elements that play off each other and work together really well.
Our clients were a fantastic couple and we were proud to enter the competition.”The same home took out the David Reid Homes ‘Home of the Year’ competition at the David Reid Homes Conference this year which was a great achievement for the team and came with lots of local support.
“We had the event in Taupo this year so that was a wonderful surprise.”Melissa says David Reid Homes is a great nation-wide business to be a part of. She says the head office team and all the other franchise owners are extremely supportive of one another.
There’s so much activity ahead that it won’t be long before Melissa and Scott grow the team, though she says they will be careful about who they engage.“Scott has such exacting standards, so we are very conscious to get the right fit of person to join our team.”
