Construction Advantage concentrates on commercial projects throughout the Waikato.

Cambridge construction business Construction Advantage Ltd formed in 2007. The company, led by John Mason concentrates on the commercial property sector.
With a 30-plus year background delivering innovative construction projects from conception to handing over of the keys John’s passion and work ethic has cemented the company’s reputation.
“Our portfolio of completed work is based on repeat business developed through strong performance,” says John.In April work began on a two-stage project at 142 Ossie James Drive, near Hamilton Airport.
Stage 1 involves building six units, made pre-dominantly from precast panels, comprising 42sqm of office space on the ground and first floor, including accessible toilet and shower and 160 cubic metres of warehousing space.
“We’ve been pleased with how well this project has progressed with the first tenant moving in on 25 September, slightly ahead of programme.”
Given the current buoyant market for precast the decision was made to pre-order the precast panels to ensure they were delivered on time. The buildings have been designed and constructed to conform to the airport guidelines and regulations.
When Business Central spoke with John mid-September the company had recently completed 12 units at Lauriston Park Retirement Village and was about to begin refurbishment of a number of industrial units, all based in Cambridge.
Asked what makes the company tick and what has been pivotal to its journey of success, John says it’s about setting and living a mission to provide total project delivery for all commercial construction projects.
“We value working with good people, delivering successful projects and using creativity and innovation at all times,” says John. The construction process begins with a feasibility report setting out all factors impacting on the success of the build.
In the case of the units at Ossie James Drive mitigating current market supply issues through careful planning was a key factor in the project’s smooth pathway.
John is part of a team of 10, including a dedicated contracts manager, quantity surveyors, site managers and administration.
Construction Advantage concentrates on projects throughout the Waikato, and with the region’s burgeoning growth in Hamilton and in and around smaller provincial centres, there’s plenty of work going forward.
“We have a clear vision to be a $20 million turnover project delivery company by 2020 by maintaining our professional work ethic and approach to every build we take on. Our goal is to be the most respected project delivery company in the Waikato.”
The company has developed practical and effective construction systems, including thoroughly managing risk across all spectrums of a project. A risk register and treatment schedule is produced and continually maintained relevant during the construction phase as a living document.
By applying this system ongoing, all potential risks are identified, analysed and treated in the most efficient and effective way at the earliest possible stage.
Coupled with this, health and safety practices have been developed to work from a practical perspective.
Construction Advantage are members of Site Safe. Training is undertaken through Safety ‘n’ Action who are Fonterra’s accredited training provider, a system the company considers reflects the highest standards.
“We see this system as being the highest standard and therefore the most appropriate.”
