Living life on the edge is about to take on a whole new meaning with the lakeside development of Clearwater Quays Apartments, just 15 minutes from Christchurch’s inner city.
Surrounded by an exciting array of amenities and lifestyle options, including world-class golf course, tennis courts, walking and mountain biking tracks, cafes and restaurants, apartment residents will enjoy all the comforts of resort style living.
Comprised of 10 individual apartments, the first of Clearwater Quays high-end five story apartment buildings is just months away from commencement with Request for Proposals (RFP’s) from a number of leading commercial construction companies currently being carefully evaluated.
Marty Verry, Clearwater Quays developer, and Group CEO of the Red Stag Group which is behind the development, says four of the apartments have already been sold with two more in the sale process.
Built within Clearwater resort, the north facing apartments will sit just five metres from the largest of Clearwater’s lakes. C
lad in a mix of ceramic tile with a rusted corten look, cedar and black aluminium, the apartments will make a striking appearance on the lake front, commanding breathtaking views of the crystal-blue lake waters, world class golf course, surrounding countryside and the pristine Southern Alps.
The views continue on the other side with a sparkling clear river fl owing at the rear and the Port Hills and city in the distance.
Managed by a professional body corporate, the freehold strata title homes are designed to make life easy and maintenance free for their owners.
Ranging from 155sqm to 210sqm inclusive of garaging, Marty says the apartments will have appeal to people looking to downsize from larger properties.
“Typically these people will spend quite a lot of time travelling overseas, especially over winter. They’re looking for a secure, warm, ‘lock up and leave’ property on a single level which has easy access, with garaging and lots of storage.”
Idyllically located right on the lakefront and designed by award winning Pacific Environment Architects, renowned for pushing the boundaries of architectural design, Clearwater Quays Apartments will offer highly specified and stylish living within a picturesque resort environment.
Marty explains that the building will showcase mass engineered timber solutions in its construction, using cross laminated timber (CLT); the same structural technique being used in Sir Bob Jones’ 12-storey office building in Wellington—both area’s being earthquake prone.
“We’re looking at the superior earthquake and fire performance of mass timber which is ideal for Canterbury. When it comes to earthquakes, timber built structures perform far better.
These kinds of buildings are becoming very prevalent around the world and this will be an example in New Zealand.”
In 2011, the Red Stag Group bought some 4 hectares of north facing lakefront land within Clearwater for development. At that stage most of Clearwater had been built—lakes, the golf course, clubrooms, Peppers Hotel, and about 80 residential houses and about 160 resort hotel properties were already in place.
“The first stage of our development was 16 highend residential Boat Houses, right on the lakefront, each with its own jetty and boat shed. That phase has all but been completed with all Boat Houses sold—bar two.”
Completion of the Boat Houses triggered stage one of Clearwater Quays Apartments. In parallel, Red Stag Group is also in the feasibility stage of a commercial precinct with a lakefront café, gymnasium and health spa, also to be completed in 2019.
“Clearwater is renowned for its quality golf course and the ability to live there,” says Marty.

Clearwater Quays offer stunning views of lakes, the alps and a world-class golf
course.

“Through Clearwater Quays and the other developments, Clearwater is making a transition from being a golf course that has houses on it to becoming more of a lifestyle resort right on the outskirts of town.”
Clearwater is a place where people live, but they will be drawn here for the many lifestyle options and opportunities the resort has to offer, in addition to a world-class golf course.
“So we’re filling in the holes and rounding out the resort community assets so that it becomes a true resort rather than a golf course that people live on.
“If you think about the Millbrook facilities – well that’s where we’re heading to with Clearwater.”
