Affordable quality on the Coromandel
Cassa Homes offers a range of unique plans as well as offering a full design-and-build service.

Cassa Homes aims to bring affordable quality homes to the Coromandel. Company owner Andre Mayo says that having been born and bred in the region he knows how to design homes to fi t in with the surrounding environment of the Coromandel.
“It’s about smart economical design, making the best use of space and therefore delivering maximum return for the client’s budget,” he says. Andre started his company in 2009 and has now been building for around 15 years.
When the building boom hit, combined with satisfi ed customers recommending Cassa Homes, the company really took off and now offers a team of builders and an in-house architect.
Cassa Homes offers a range of unique plans that have been developed by Andre and his team as well as offering a full design and build option plus building off clients’ own plans.
Andre says that even the plans are customised to uniquely suit the client’s ideas and requirements and often just form the starting point for a design and build project.
He is adamant that quality and affordability can go hand in hand: “Quality should be the foundation of every build no matter what the budget. We can work with the client’s budget to deliver a beautifully designed high quality home,” he says.
A good example is a home recently completed by Cassa Homes on Centennial Drive in Whitianga. In this case the owner came to Cassa Homes with a concept plan and design brief and Andre worked this into a set of plans to provide something unique that ticked all the right boxes for the client.
Built on a small 450sqm site the 157sqm home comprises four bedrooms, open plan living/dining area, main bathroom, ensuite and single garage.
Around 60 square metres of outdoor deck and living space give good indoor-outdoor flow. Andre describes the home as a “quirky personalised home that suits the client perfectly.”
Another recent example in Romeo Place, Whitianga, was designed from the Cassa Homes Black Jack plan.
The stunning 190sqm architectural home uses timber cladding positioned in the voids just like the flesh of a fruit when cut, while the metal wraps around the exterior like an organic skin.
The shape of the home however, is very abstract. The layout of the three bedroom home is comprised of two wings with bedrooms on each end to give the bedrooms great morning sun coverage.
The lounge and living are positioned to make the most of sunlight right throughout the day.
Andre says it is a good example of the high spec architectural plans the company offers that take into account maximising the sun. Cassa Homes also undertakes renovation and home additions as well as deck and fence projects.
As Registered Master Builders Cassa Homes can offer the association’s guarantee. The company can also complete light commercial projects and labour only and has supplied labour for a new Guthrie Bowron store in the area.
Andre says the region is thriving and at present Cassa Homes is constructing a canal front home at Whitianga Waterways and two baches in Matarangi.
He plans to keep cementing the company’s ever growing reputation as a niche bespoke builder, staying abreast of trends and providing a quality product and service to clients.
