Core values drive Carus performance
Carus offer services ranging from general painting contracts to individually tailored asset maintenance solutions.

Christchurch-based painting and maintenance company Carus Group has earned the rare achievement of securing a place on the Deloitte Fast 50 index for two years running, giving the people working in the business the recognition they deserve for their hard work and effort.
“It’s not easy to work in a fast-growing business,” says Carus Group general manager Harvey Fisher.
“No two days are the same. This great achievement means our people are being recognised for the effort they have put in, and our customers can see where we are going.”
Carus offer services ranging from general painting contracts to individually tailored asset maintenance solutions. “We’ve now got six branches around New Zealand,” Harvey says.
“Christchurch is our head office and South Island hub, then we’ve got Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, and Whangarei.” He says the business has expanded through sheer hard work and delivering on its promises.
Three years ago, Carus developed six core values with its business coach and all staff members, gaining full buy-in from everyone involved.
“Our core values are all focused around our customers and what we expect from our staff. One of our key values is having pride in our appearance, and that includes how our staff present themselves from our uniforms to our vans and how our sites are set up. Our second value is caring for others and their property, ensuring we don’t walk into someone’s place with muddy boots. We have proactive attitudes, passion and commitment, and we’re willing to learn and grow. Finally, we always make sure we do what we say we’re going to do.”
Carus Group works closely with three major paint brands, Resene, Dulux, and Wattyl, engaging them to specify for each new project what products to use on what surfaces and what preparation is needed.
“This ensures what we are allowing for, lines up with each paint company’s warranties, and that our clients will get the best longevity out of their paint system,” Harvey says.
With a heavy focus on the education market, Carus Group this year has worked with more than 80 schools and universities across New Zealand, and knows all school repaints are important.
One project completed last year was the repaint of Southbridge School in rural Canterbury in time for its 150th Jubilee Celebration.
A massive job for all involved was to remove the layers from previous paint jobs; Carus Group used a combination of chemical stripping and manual sanding and feathering which took enormous effort from all concerned.
One day away from the start of the jubilee celebrations, Carus Group was working on the finishing touches, then proudly handed over as promised the fully prepped and painted historic main building in time for the event.
