An extension for CHT Healthcare Trust in Red Beach, Auckland, will see around 40 extra beds added to the facility.

Watts & Hughes has just started work on a project for CHT Healthcare Trust, the extension of an existing facility at CHT’s Halldene Terrace location in Red Beach, Auckland.

The extension will see around 40 extra beds added to the facility and be constructed from reinforced concrete with brick and timber cladding.

Once complete Watts & Hughes will begin stage two of the project – a complete refurbishment of the existing building. Both projects are ear marked for completion by September 2018.

Watts & Hughes commercial manager, Robert Collins, considers the projects will further cement the company’s reputation for completing high quality projects on time and on budget.

“It reinforces what we do and do well – proven performance and delivering on promises,” says Robert.

Watts & Hughes Construction Limited is part of Watts Group. Based in Auckland the company was originally formed in 1984.

Robert says that Watts & Hughes Construction specialises in providing a total service to clients and can cover every aspect of construction including design and build, refurbishment, project management, site contract management, pricing and estimating, subcontract and material evaluation, leasing and building services.

Services are offered across a broad spectrum of construction sectors including civil, industrial, recreational, retail, commercial, institutional, residential, educational, marinas, government infrastructure, medical/health care and sub-divisions.

No matter what the project the company’s focus always remains firmly on the client and meeting their needs, he says, from initial design to completed construction.

This is achieved through efficient in-house quality control programmes to ensure the highest standards of construction are maintained while still keeping the project within timelines and budget controls.

While regular communication with the client ensures they are kept abreast of every stage of the project the fact that they can also have direct contact with a Watts & Hughes director if required means a more personal service, says Robert.

Another significant project currently underway in Auckland is the $20.5 million redevelopment of Koru School in Mangere, Auckland.

The government-funded project will see all of the school’s existing 27 classrooms replaced with 31 new teaching spaces, as well as construction of a new library, administration building and hall.

The project has been programmed into five stages to ensure the school can remain operational throughout.

It will involve demolition of fixed and relocatable classrooms, an existing administration block and library. Drainage, playing fields and soft and hard landscaping will also be completed.

Watts & Hughes is also working on stage one of Everill Orr retirement village, a project at Freemans Bay School, 30 York Street apartments and construction of an apartment building at Bethseda Village.
