Specialist firm eyes new opportunities
The next level in travel comfort - the interior of a Wade Group luxury equine coach.

It was a family interest in horses that led to the start of successful New Zealand company Wade Group.

For more than 20 years the company has been customising, adapting and fitting-out vehicles for a wide variety of customers and industries.

“We were very keen horse riders as kids and my father Roy offered to make a trailer horse float. This led to the first Wade Equine Coach we built, which quickly attracted a lot of attention and orders,” explains Wade Group owner Alyssa Wade.

Roy was an entrepreneur by nature and started the business on the back of a collision repair company.

As the company’s reputation grew he started manufacturing and built up the business over the years.

Alyssa ran her own successful businesses before coming to work at Wade Group.

She took over as sole owner in 2016.

Since then she has driven huge growth and secured a large number of high profile government contracts. She has also seen the establishment of the company in Australia with a Melbourne manufacturing plant.

The Australian company employs 30 staff and holds a number of government contracts in Victoria including manufacturing the alcohol and drug testing vehicles for Victoria Police.

“It’s opened up a lot of opportunities for the next stage of growth. We planned to start in one state to understand the Australian market. We feel we’ve brought a fresh approach to the market,” she says.

In New Zealand Wade Group’s head office is based in Hamilton and around 100 highly trained staff are employed across the group capable of delivering vehicles built to world-class standards.

“We employ qualified tradespeople to keep the work in-house so we are not reliant on outsourcing. This enables us to keep quality extremely high. Our employees are trained in the business and are industry leaders in their fields.”

This has enabled Wade Group to service a variety of clients and industries. Clients include NZ Police, Department of Corrections and Wellington Free Ambulance.

Wade Group can also service and maintain customers’ vehicles offering a complete service with nationwide pick up and delivery.

“Our aim is to get a deep understanding of our customers’ needs and to provide a professional yet personalised service that meets these needs. Combined with a focus on innovation and improvement the end result is cost-effective, reliable products that exceed customer expectations,” says Alyssa.

This has been reflected in a couple of recent awards won by Wade Group. The company was a finalist in the New Zealand International Business Awards in 2018 in the Inspiring Women Leaders category.

It won the Automotive and Transport category award last year at the Australian Good Design Awards

.Alyssa predicts that the Australian company will grow quickly and become a large part of the group’s business in the coming years.

“We have a unique offering, amazing group of people and great company culture. We’re very customer focused and strive to be the best we can possibly be.”
