Kenny Geenty of Hawke’s Bay’s Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas was named 2019 Plumber, Gasfitter or Drainlayer of the Year at Master Plumbers 2019 New Zealand Plumbing Awards.

Plumbing foreman Kenny Geenty of Hawke’s Bay’s Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas has been named 2019 Plumber, Gasfitter or Drainlayer of the Year at Master Plumbers 2019 New Zealand Plumbing Awards
While the award recognises excellence in the trade skills of an individual certifying plumber, Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas pricing manager Scott McCauley says the company looks at it as a team effort and a win for the team.

“It’s his workmanship that got us there,” he says.

When Kenny joined the Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas team in 2013, he already had a very high skill set. He has since played a large role in the implementation of the company’s policies and procedures, alongside its two directors Mark Watkins and Bevan Gully.

“We have a saying here that when we work, we work the Advanced way,” Scott says.

“We all follow the same policies and procedures on how things get done and how our company likes to leave jobs done.”

While working for Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas, Kenny was able to earn his certifying plumber credentials, which takes another five and a half years on top of the trade qualification.

He now runs all of Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas’ high-spec, multimillion-dollar homes projects, and is well known to enjoy dealing with clients.

“He’s always there for the client, offering them other solutions that will save cost and increase overall efficiencies. We do get a lot of work because it’s going to be him on the job.”

Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas celebrated 10 years in business in October 2019.

The company started with just Mark and Bevan, and has now grown to a staff of just less than 40.

A second branch was opened in Taupo early 2018, running one foreman, one apprentice, and one certified plumber.

Scott says with 40 staff, Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas is a very large business and as such, has the ability to take on new clients with ease. “People appreciate that we can get to their job when we say we can.”

Kenny and Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas are now working on a project with a rich historical background for the Hawke’s Bay.

After four generations and 105 years, the historic Kopanga Homestead, on the doorstep to Havelock North, has been sold out of the pioneering Hawke’s Bay Chambers family which originally built the home in 1914.

Its new owners are undertaking a full remodel of the homestead, and Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas is upgrading all of its services, replacing its old and degraded pipework, reinstalling drainage, storm water, and sewer, installing gas units, remodelling its five bathrooms, and setting up a reticulated water supply.

“It’s a real honour for Advanced Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas to work on this property,” Scott says.

“It is a huge part of the history of our area and we get to be part of preserving a beautiful home for the generations to come.”
