A new approach to retirement living
A new retirement complex in Thames will change the way people view retirement, says developer Colin Parker.
The village has been based on concepts Colin came into contact with in Europe and places a great importance on facilitating interaction and friendship between residents.
“Richmond Villas is about enjoying the company of like-minded people and making new friends while being able to access a variety of service and recreation facilities so people can really start living,” he says.
When completed Richmond Villas will offer 81 apartments, 79 villas and a community centre.
Each floor on the apartment buildings will offer large communal lounges complete with tea and coffee making facilities for people to meet and interact.
Colin says the lounges have been designed by Babbage Consultants to maximise the stunning views out across the Hauraki Gulf and Coromandel Peninsula.
“In hotels the only place to really meet people is in the foyer. So by creating lounges on every level of the building this provides ample opportunity for people to meet and spend time together creating a friendly atmosphere,” he says.
The project is being constructed by Stanley Group and Colin says the building is unique in its design utilising lightweight laminated wooden floors with no joists.
This acts to soundproof the building creating a tranquil environment in keeping with the atmosphere of Thames. Likewise the overall design of the development has been kept classic.
Colin says both the villas and apartments have been desigend to luxurious standards.
Apartments come in one- and two-bedroom options with large private decks.
Villas are two bedrooms ranging from 100sqm to 166 sqm or two bedrooms plus den, ranging from 124sqm to 192sqm.
Made from brick and tile they are north facing to receive maximum sun.
The master bedroom is spacious and has both TV and telephone jacks and comes with an ensuite. There is an outdoor patio area for each villa.
Richmond Villas also includes a community centre complete with spa pool, heated swimming pool, gymnasium, billiard/pool room, quiet room, library, kitchen and dining area, big screen TV/Sky, hair salon and outside petanque court.
Located in beautiful gardens nestled in the heart of Thames.
Richmond Village enjoys the convenience of being within walking distance to shops and all amenities of what the town and proximity to major centre offers, says Colin.
“Richmond Villas is about making everything easy with all things taken care of – gardens, maintenance etc. This means people have nothing to worry about and can focus on enjoying life.”
He stresses that Richmond Villas is unlike other retirement villages and the concept has proved popular with stage one already half sold. A display apartment is open for viewing.
“It’s lovely to see people come in lonely and within a short time have formed great friendships, are laughing and really participating in life.
People come here because life’s too short to live with regrets.
At Richmond Villas they have the privacy and security they want with freedom to do the things they love.”
