Lanta delivers on Towerblock project
Lanta Construction & Interiors works on a variety of contracts including interiors, construction and design and build.

Auckland’s Southpark Corporation is a privately owned company that has been successfully developing properties for over 30 years.

The company’s recent work on a multistorey building in Como Street, Takapuna, also demonstrates its reputation for tackling challenging projects in short time frames.

The project was contracted to Lanta Construction & Interiors for design and build when a good portion of the fifth level was damaged due to fire.

“The project’s nature was unusual as we were dealing with fire damage across floors within our office tower, and affected customers,” says Jarrod Mcgregor, head of property for Southpark.

Lanta also ended up completing integrated fitouts for three individual tenancies.

The company completed emergency works to secure the weather tightness before moving on to tackle the design and build aspects of the contract. Lanta’s Ross Pett says the project involved erecting scaffolding five storeys high as workers replaced the aluminium glazing on the facade.

He says that as the project was undertaken in a live site with people working in the other levels of the 11 storey building, robust project management was essential as well as closely liaising with other tenants and the building manager,.

“For example, things such as interconnected services needed to be managed carefully to avoid disruption to other tenants.

“It was a turn-key design and build project for which Lanta has become renowned, completed to a tight programme.

“Clients come to us because they know that we can deliver.” Lanta undertakes boutique commercial, education, retail and health projects.

The company works on a variety of contracts including interiors, construction and design and build.

Lanta was started in 2004 by Ross and business partner David Rodgers.

Both are qualified builders and David is also a qualified quantity surveyor.

Between the pair they bring Lanta clients over five decades of building experience.

Ross says a key point of difference for the company is that either he or Dave are personally involved in every project which Lanta undertakes.

“Our programming and project management, quantity surveying, tendering and turn-key services prove invaluable to our clients.

“Because we have one director or senior project manager dedicated to each project this is how we maintain such good control over quality and timing of projects.”

Sound environmental practices are integral to how the company works.

It also makes economic sense, says Ross.

As an example he says that when the company stopped outsourcing the majority of its demolition waste removal and instead began sorting and recyc ling on site it ended up saving not only resources but money.

He says the company strives to create less waste in the first place where possible with small changes netting big results.
