Bringing Jennian style to Canterbury
Jennian Homes – Canterbury is more than just a building company.
Strong project management, quantity surveying and access to architectural design complement a wide range of experience within the construction industry.
Owned and operated by business partners Dwayne Prendergast and Paul Jenkins for the last three years, the business has experienced substantial growth and development and now covers a wide geographic reach from Kaikoura through to Oamaru.
Both Dwayne and Paul come from backgrounds in the residential construction industry ranging from building homes, residential retail, managing building companies to heading project management teams.
That experience and thorough understanding of the end-to-end construction process enables confident, clear and honest discussions with clients from the moment they walk in Jennian Homes’ door to the time the keys of a brand new Jennian Homes built home are handed over.
While Dwayne overseas the sales, contracts staff within the business, Paul’s main focus centres on the project management of the build from the time the approved house plans come out of Council.
With both business owners directly involved in the business, the client always has direct access to either one at any stage.
“Paul is very visible with our clients and keeps them regularly updated with construction progress,” says Dwayne.
“We’ve just handed a house over this week and the client said he couldn’t believe how visible the build process was through our communication.
“He only visited the site twice but every day knew what was going on—that’s just the way our project management works.”
Project management is one of Jennian Homes’ strengths; it is what it does from concept to completion ensuring the process moves along regard-less of the stage and does not become static.
That strength in project management along with industry knowledge has led to the business undertaking more and more high-end architectural homes right from design.
With three large builds currently underway in Westmoreland and another just about to start, Dwayne says the business is getting a large volume of enquiries from people looking for that special home.
“Many people think you have to go directly to an architect to get a beautiful architectural home—but you don’t. The plans are only one part of the process.
“You still have to get them through council, get the house built and project managed correctly. That’s the beauty of coming to a building company like ours that has a lot of in-house experience.”
Being aligned to a couple of architectural firms designing predominantly for Jennian Homes – Canterbury enables tight control on building costs, ensuring that at the end of the design process the client is getting plans for a home that fits within their budget.
Whether it’s a first home or an architectural home, a range of in-house plans help as a start point in the process and while most clients already have a piece of land to build on, Jennian Homes-Canterbury can even help with that.
“It’s all in the planning and detail of the build process and that is where Jennian Homes – Canterbury really adds value to our clients
