Celebrating another winner

Liki Udam Apr 4
JNL has over 30,000 hectares of sustainably managed and certified plantation forests in the East Coast and Wairarapa.

Juken New Zealand Ltd (JNL) is a long term supporter of the Eastland Wood Council Forestry Awards and in 2019 staff member David Rameka took out the Wood Processing of the Year title.

JNL General Manager of Forests, Dylan Foster says that the awards are an important date in the industry calendar. “We think the awards are really positive for the industry.

“They celebrate the success of people like David and their achievements within the industry, community and their own families,” says Dylan who also sits on the board of the Eastland Wood Council.

JNL manufactures a range of engineered wood and solid wood products used for structural and non-structural purposes, for external or internal uses and for appearance or non-appearance finishes.

The company’s flagship products are J-Frame, J-Panel and Triboard.

J-Frame is a structural laminated veneer lumber gauged framing timber made from 100% renewable radiata pine plantation forest.

Because it is a reliable straight and durable product, J-Frame can be used in a wide range of applications including residential and commercial framing and truss systems, says Dylan.

J-Panel is a general purpose solid wood edge laminated panel designed for furniture and joinery applications.

Triboard is a three layered panel with a wood strand core sandwiched between MDF.

Dylan says the innovative combination of smooth surfaces with inner strength makes it ideal for a wide range of internal structural and non-structural applications – panel housing, structural walls, floors, fire rated doors and inter-tenancy walls, solid core doors, bracing panels, bench tops and shelving.

Dylan says that JNL is one of a few companies of its kind taking control of its product from plantation to final product and the result is a high value product range as well as specialist products to meet market demand.

The company has over 30,000 hectares of sustainably managed and certified plantation forests in the East Coast and Wairarapa.

The forests are located close to JNL operational mills ensuring freshly cut logs can be efficiently delivered for processing with minimal damage to the logs.

Dylan says that proper forest management is the key to producing the right trees for making the right products.

Juken is a member of the New Zealand Forest Owners Association, dedicated to a raft of standards that mean Juken operates its forests professionally.

Dylan says that a point of difference for Juken is that it operates on a 30-year rotational cycle instead of harvesting trees earlier.

This ensures the product is as tough and durable as it can be. Within this cycle tree stocking rates are adjusted and silviculture regimes to ensure that Juken ends up with wood that is true, that is stable, that looks good and that is well-suited to the high quality products the company makes.
