Young team with a diverse skill set
With a diverse range of skills and experience, the team at Brownie Homes can handle every aspect of all types of construction projects. Led by James Brownie, the company was established in Christchurch in 2012.
James completed his apprenticeship in Nelson in residential and commercial construction, before moving to Christchurch to study quantity surveying at Christchurch Polytechnic.
Then the earthquakes hit, and James continued to study part time while working for Arrow International, inspecting homes and co-ordinating demolition projects in the red zone.
When James started Brownie Homes, there were a lot of other new building companies starting up as well, and he knew he needed to lay some strong foundations if his company was going to continue following the earthquake rebuild.
“We hit the ground running straight away and have built up to a team of 10 builders,” he says.
“We take a lot of pride in our work and we have extensive knowledge of the building industry.
“We’re only a young team, but I’ve been building for 12 years and delivered a range of different construction projects including new homes and renovations, light commercial, office fit outs, as-is where-is properties, home relocations, landscaping, and concrete work.”
From its base in Waltham, Brownie Homes works all around Christchurch and Canterbury, and can often be found in Central Otago, where the company is currently building a spa area for a hotel, and has new homes in Queenstown and Wanaka in the pipeline.
“We got work down in Central Otago through recommendations,” James says. “We do a good job and then get asked to come back and do some more.”
Brownie Homes is currently building a new 270sqm home at Prestons subdivision and a new home at Kirwee.
The company also has a large renovation project underway on an old home in Ilam, carrying out a full reconfiguration of its ground floor and installing a new kitchen, bathrooms, and living areas.
Brownie Homes has recently completed a renovation to a large villa at Mt Pleasant. Sold to Brownie Homes’ client as is where is, the company has completed its earthquake repairs and brought the home back to its former glory.
Brownie Homes can start any of its clients’ projects from consented plans stage or concept stage, referring clients to a recommended architect to complete the design then following the project through to completion.
With its diverse range of skills, clients don’t need to go anywhere else to get the construction services required for their project.
“Whether its relocating homes, landscaping, or concrete work, we can build it all into a fixed price contract,” James says.
No project is too big or too small for Brownie Homes, from commercial buildings, residential homes, or small repairs around the house.
Brownie Homes prides itself on delivering quality homes and construction services at competitive prices.
“We want repeat and referred business, and we’re happy to spend the time to make sure everything is done right.”
