Sapphire success for QT leader
A long track record of building award winning homes was honoured recently at a gala dinner in Queenstown for the Southern Registered Master Builders 2017 House of the Year competition, where AJ Saville was presented with a special Sapphire Award.
This award recognises outstanding achievement, being bestowed only on those who have previously achieved three regional supreme awards across either renovations or new builds.
In total, AJ Saville has actually been named Southern Supreme Winner four times in 2003, 2011, 2012 and 2015.
“We are the only builders in this region to have received this award and it reflects the success we’ve had with homes we have built both at Millbrook and Crown Range,” says company founder Allister Saville.
“It was a surprise to receive the award, which I was proud to accept on behalf of all our past and present staff and our subcontractors as well,” Allister says.
“Success like this is staff- driven – we are all committed to making sure the next house will always be better than the last one.”
This latest award is icing on the cake for the company, which received a prestigious platinum award in 2012, (given only to the industry’s elite, namely those who have achieved five national category awards across either renovations or new builds).
The leading Queenstown building company specialises in premium architectural builds and has completed almost 60 multi-million dollar homes at Arrowtown’s exclusive Millbrook Resort.
It built 12 outstanding homes, designed by multi award-winning firm Mason & Wales Architects, at Millbrook’s Taramea Square.
One of these was a show home that won the 2014 National Show Home Award and was also a Gold Reserve and category winner.
AJ Saville also built the cluster of 13 homes that make up Millbrook’s Coronet Square. Both of these exclusive neighbourhoods are in the heart of Millbrook’s new Coronet 9 Golf Course.
As the Central Otago Registered Master Builders branch president, Allister is leading by example to encourage consistently high standards in the local building sector.
“We set up this branch two years ago to give our members more focus on achieving that edge when it comes to quality.”
Currently, AJ Saville has four beautiful new homes designed by Mason & Wales underway at Millbrook’s Harvest Lane, along with three other private homes within the resort.
AJ Saville first starting building at Millbrook in 2001 after winning a tender to do so and has continued to meet the resort’s high quality expectations over the intervening years.
Commenting at the time of the 2014 National Show Home Award, Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley praised AJ Saville’s contribution and said its team had consistently performed at the very highest standard.
“Millbrook has been very good for us and that relationship is ongoing,” Allister says. There are set design guidelines in place at Millbrook, underpinning the premium quality homes there.
As Allister observes, it ensures the best materials and products are used, including timber and natural stone to reflect the special environmental character of Arrowtown and Central Otago.
As well as building at Millbrook, AJ Saville builds architectural homes on select sites elsewhere in the region.
At AJ Saville, Allister’s wife Diane plays a key role as his sounding board, bringing that valuable third opinion to the table at just the right times.
Excellent communication with both client and architect is a cornerstone of the company’s approach.
The 32-strong team offers a full project management service and has a strong commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable building.
In 2012, the company was a Gold Reserve national finalist and national winner in the sustainable homes over $1 million category in the NZ House of the Year Competition.
A member of the NZ Institute of Building, Allister also takes an active role in the Green Building Council.
