Business Central – December 2021

While Covid has impacted heavily upon the lives of many in the district, for one farming couple it presented an opportunity to ignite a business idea that had been brewing for several years. Meredith and Andrew Carpenter of Ruanui Station have launched Ruanui Station Wool Blankets using finer lambs’ wool and the business has taken off. Also based in the district Marton’s Speirs Foods produces a range of healthy salad mixes using locally-grown produce. Innovation is at the heart of success for many kiwi businesses. Meanwhile winning the Manufacturing and Technology Excellence Award along with becoming a Supreme Award Finalist at this year’s Westpac Tairawhiti Business Excellence Awards was a grand recognition of the Mahi put in by the team at Rua Bioscience and the support of the community and investors. Operating in the research, cultivation, extraction and manufacturing parts of the medicinal cannabis supply chain, Rua is a Kiwi pharmaceutical company that aims to be a leading producer of cannabinoid derived medicines. In other stories, CentrePort is embarking on a significant upgrade of its Seaview Wharf and pipeline which are vital to fuel supply for both Wellingtonians and the rest of the lower North Island.
