“Our slogan is a ‘passion for excellence,’ and that’s what we bring to every project,” says Steve, a registered master builder and licensed building practitioner with 28 years of construction experience. Steve’s wife Rach shares directorship of the design-and-build business, whose crew includes an in-house project manager, five qualified builders and four apprentices.
The company’s focus on architecturally designed new builds and renovations has led to long-standing relationships with local architects. “We do have an architect that we use quite a lot,” Steve says, underlining the company’s strength in effective project management and working relationships.

In addition to its diverse portfolio of new homes and transformational renovations, Ardent Building Developments is an experienced builder of apartment and townhouse developments. “We’ve done a lot of apartments and duplexes over the years,” says Steve, including an own-development at Odette Street, Hamilton. “This is two duplexes with a total of four medium to high-spec units, each with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, all intended as rental properties.” Ardent Building Developments has successfully completed numerous one and two-storey townhouses and apartment buildings, including Charlemont St, Ulster St and Bankwood Road.
In addition, Ardent Building Development is equally capable of stunning new-home builds, such as the rural family home in Eureka which the team has recently finished. “This is a 230-square-metre family home for a working farming family, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms,” says Steve. Situated on a hilltop site overlooking their property, the farming family home highlights Ardent’s ability to construct modern and functional homes for diverse lifestyles.
Another recent standout project is a 540-square-metre luxury home featuring extensive schist stonework, high ceilings and an in-ground swimming pool. The meticulous craftsmanship in this build exemplifies the company’s commitment to delivering high-end, high-spec new builds and renovations. Ardent Building Developments are experienced smaller-home builders too, and currently have a 60-square-metre dwelling going up out the back of an existing section, intended as rental accommodation. “There is another one we’re waiting to come out of council and another we’ve just started designing.”
