There was a silver lining in the global financial crisis for Whangarei couple Brendon and Sheena Antonio. It was when they started their successful building company Antonio Builders Limited.
Brendon had been working for a housing company and when the recession hit the work dried up. He started building for friends and family and word of mouth saw his new business grow.
So much so that he was able to provide work for others who had likewise lost their jobs. Antonio Builders has been busy ever since with no need to advertise and now employs a team of 13.
Based in Whangarei, Antonio Builders focuses on new homes, building both from clients’ own plans and also teaming up with local designers to deliver the client their dream home.
With 18 years of building experience under his belt, Brendon offers his clients vast expertise backed by Sheena who takes on the administration side of the business among other tasks.
Antonio Builders can undertake projects up to one hour’s drive away. Brendon takes pride in being a small locally owned business: “We still call ourselves a small business as we have low overheads – for example no office and no showhome.
“That means we can offer our clients great prices and a very personal service. “Our customers don’t deal with sales people and project managers – they deal with me and our foreman on site,” explains Brendon.
Although new builds are a focus due to present demand for new housing, renovations and smaller projects such as decks are undertaken by Antonio Builders.
Antonio Builders has been busy building in the Karanui development northwest of Whangarei and is just starting its eighth home in the subdivision. This will be a 294 square metre home set on an acre section. Clad in brick and cedar the home will comprise four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a four car garage.
The company has just completed a 268 square metre brick and linea weatherboard home in the Karanui with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a double garage with bar and a separate shed. Antonio Builders is also building a spec home in Karanui.
The contemporary four bedroom 220 square metre home is sited at the top of the subdivision backing onto Pukenui Forest making for a special home.
Antonio Builders has been busy building in the Karanui development northwest of Whangarei and is just starting its eighth home in the subdivision.
Clad in Stria and vertical cedar, the home with include two bathrooms and raking ceilings over the kitchen/living/dining area. A covered kwila deck will provide great outdoor living opportunities.
Brendon says the purchaser will be able to liaise with Antonio Builders to select the interior fi t-out and colours as well as other details of the build. Antonio Bui lders is also busy working on a couple of other high-end home projects in Whangarei.
Brendon credits his team for the company’s continued reputation for producing very high quality builds: “All of the team at Antonio Builders has been specially selected and are either people I personally know or who one of our team can vouch for.
“It’s a very tight-knit and talented team,” he says. “We are happy with the size the company has reached and will never grow so big we can’t offer our customers the personal building experience we have become known for.”
