Quality abounds in new show home

Striking in design, Andrew Pope Homes new show home in Blenheim’s Boulevard Park on Taylors subdivision displays all the hall marks underpinning quality craftsmanship.
Large front facing windows afford uninterrupted views of the hills and mountain ranges with a mono-pitched roof at one end of the home enabling a massive 4.5 metre stud throughout the living areas.
Cedar cladding beneath the dark mono-pitched roof is fused with white plaster cladding beneath a gabled roof at the home’s opposite end, creating a stylish monochromatic visual contrast.
Managing director, Andrew Pope, says the three- bedroom 225sqm home is highly ‘specced’ with all the modern kitchen equipment, a spacious scullery and an integrated air-conditioning system that can be set to provide a consistent temperature throughout the house.
Generous alfresco living complements the design of the home.
Specialising in residential builds, along with house and land packages and ‘design and build’ options, Andrew Pope Homes Ltd was established in 2009 by husband and wife team, Michelle and Andrew Pope.
With over 28 years in the business of building quality homes, Andrew prides himself in providing customers with a personal approach to service.
Building is in the Pope family’s blood with father Graham a well-respected builder before retiring, and Andrew’s brother working as a carpenter for Andrew Pope Homes up until about 18 months ago. “We’re very much a family orientated business,” says Andrew.
“I do all the pricing and oversee the business operation, while Michelle does all the office administration, book-keeping, accounts and keeps everything running smoothly. Our son, Bradley, is a qualified carpenter working in the business on contract.”
A receptionist, sales consultant and construction manager completes the office team. “We employ carpenters on contract,” says Andrew.
“We’ve used the same crews for a long time and very rarely change. ‘You get quality workmanship if you build lasting relationships with the contractors and suppliers rather than constantly changing – you can get them to work to the standard that you want.”
He says a key point of difference is that his builders do the whole job from laying the slab, framing, trusses, cladding and finishing – ensuring quality workmanship.
Based in Blenheim, Andrew Pope Homes covers the Marlborough area including the Sounds. Andrew says that working in the Sounds is a bit like taking a holiday it is such a stunning location to build in.
He says that he is normally working with 30 separate clients at any one time in various stages of the process from homes under construction, going through Council consent, design, pricing or just responding to enquiries.
With the bulk of work coming from referrals, Andrew says the company has 15 new builds under way at anyone time, at various stages of completion.
“We do a mix of homes. We’ve just gone to contract for one home that is 70sqm granny home with a big deck and a river view and we are currently pricing for a high-end 450sqm home. “We just enjoy designing and building quality houses for people.”
