New name but decades of experience behind team
Their new trading name is only a few months old, but between them, the team at Water Services NZ share decades of experience in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of water systems.
The business traded as John Frew Farm Water Supply Specialists under its previous ownership.
It underwent a change in management in November 2017, however, many of the same staff have continued alongside the new owners, husband and wife team Ryan and Bridget Mason.
While the company’s core business remains farm water systems, Ryan says Water Services NZ is a one-stop shop for water systems – rural, industrial, and residential.
“We can deliver your whole pack-age from start to finish, and we’ll go anywhere in the North Island.”
Ryan has a background in sheep and beef farming, dairy support, and farm development, and says he particularly enjoys helping any size of operation to intensify and improve performance.
“I understand the issues facing farmers, and I’ve got firsthand experience of the benefits of good-quality, clean, stock water and reticulated supply.”
Ryan says the biggest change he’s seen during his time in the industry is in the area of technology.
His company uses GPS Trac Map, fitted to a Polaris ranger, to help with on farm design and to create detailed, as-built, maps of water systems.
One key technology supplied by Water Services NZ is Tagit Technologies’ Halo Water Monitoring System.
Halo provides detailed analysis of flow and water levels, helping farmers to effectively monitor usage and prevent wastage.
Digitally stored data improves overall record keeping, and allows comparisons over time.
“These days farmers can get so much information about their system through their phone or tablet. Halo will send alerts if changes to the water fl ow pattern are detected, and that’s particularly helpful when you have hard-to-access areas on farm.”
Water Services NZ are specialist installers of all forms of water meters and can offer Blue Tick ac-credited water meter verification.
In partnership with Acqua by Davey, the company offers specialised filtration systems for removing iron and manganese from a water supply.
These minerals can impact stock performance, create deposits in pipes and equipment, and hinder the flow of water and cleaning agents.
Other services include trenching and laying pipe, levelling and plumbing troughs and tanks, and supplying all polythene and PVC pipe fittings and materials.
They stock a wide range of water pumps, including the Lowara, Grundfos, Dab, Davey and Onga brands, and are also happy to order any other brand or model, on request.
They offer surface and submersible pump options, and can also supply and service deep well gearing and bulldozer pumps.
They have a purpose-built rig for large-scale deep well bore lifts, and are also experienced in the installation and maintenance of geothermal bores.
Ryan says his company’s key strength is the team’s experience.
“We know the job inside out, so whatever you need, we’ll get it done right – on time, and on budget.”
